The Phoenix Rises

Now, I know what you're thinking, “is this another superhero story where the heroes always beat the bad guys and are over dramatic. Or the villains always beat the good guys and are over dramatic?”. I know, I know— the stories gets kinda boring after a while when the heroes or villains always win. Well, sorry to disappoint you but this is that type of story. But this is where there are no heroes saving the day or the villains ruling the world. No, this is the story about in between the line, the small grey line that no one sees but is always there. The grey line you can cross at any moment. This is about the story where the Vigilantes— the anti-heroes win. The villain’s to the heroes, the nightmares to the villain’s, the guiding light to the people who can’t defend themselves when no hero is there to save them. The True Heroes. The Heroes that can either win or lose, but ultimately still win because that’s what people want in a story.

Chapter 1: The Lake of Black

Not all humans are created to be equal, especially the ones with no power, no purpose, in the world.

It was almost noon, as a 6th grade class of elementary students stood around a small boy. The students were laughing at a red-haired boy as he muttered an apology to them. From the front of the classroom, the teacher smirked, letting them continue. The red-haired boy even looked up at his teacher but he didn't try to ask for help, knowing what would happen if he did. He learned long ago that there was no point-- that no one cared for the powerless-- no one cared.

After a few minutes, the teacher had enough of the mocking and abuse, stood up telling all the students to sit back down so he could continue teaching. Ignoring the smell of burnt fabric and iron that wafted through the classroom as the boy brushed ash from his burnt shoulder.

The boy had freckles that kissed his face that connected like constellations, his flawless porcelain skin looked like fresh snow that had fallen from the sky. He had a feminine body that looked fragile to the touch. His red hair had gold highlights making it look like a blazing fire.

Now, his eyes were the ones that made him intoxicating, his eyes were as a fire of sapphires. So warm and majestic, so deep and beautiful, yet so dark and destructive. Like it was rusted for centuries from years of neglect and abuse, yet the fire still had a blazing hope for peace.

That boy was me.

Hello, I'm Nathaniel Aldiar. I come from a world where everyone gets a superpower when they're born, or when they are five years old when their body could handle the power.

But I am one of the unlucky people who don't get powers, so I'm treated horribly. To everyone in my world, I was worthless.

And the scars I have to prove it.

After school was over, the class left, some throwing pieces of paper or rubbers at me as I cleared away my stuff, hiding it all deep in my bag, then I put his diary where no-one could see where I hid inside.

Or so I thought.

"Hey crippled, what's this? Oh, Is this your diary!" My sapphire eyes glared down at the small boy, who was emotionlessly trying to get it back, as he took the notebook. After I tried getting it back and him reading a few pages of it, he looked back at me and started laughing.

"Hahaha! So you're are a faggot, I knew it! You even had a crush on me! Haha, oh my god!"

Then, after he was done laughing, he used his strength and tore my diary, and the torn remains of my journal were tossed out of the window. My helpless eyes followed it, as it fell out of sight— plummeting towards the ground. I turned back to look at the super-powered boy who threw it.

The boy's name was Eric Brown, the boy I used to have a crush on until I found who he truly is.

He was the son of the SSS-ranked hero, the hero of strength: Atom, his power was called strength boost which is pretty self-explanatory itself, and the SSS-ranked hero, La Vie, She can heal anyone with a touch of her hand, even herself it's called the touch of life. She was originally from France but moved here after falling in love with Atom and quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Eric's power was Super Strength, his power also makes him SSS-ranked, he can stack his strength but it damages his body if he goes over 100%.

He had Blonde hair and toxic green eyes, he had a very muscular build that makes him look like he does steroids. His personality is something that I hate, he's cocky, arrogant, and worst of all he's a playboy. He had about thirteen girlfriends just last week, and now he has fifteen girls all wanting to claim him, gross! He even took the girlfriend of other guys but they all forgave him!!

But even with all this, no one would mess with Eric, not even the villain's of the world because the government gave Eric the okay to use his quirk out in public, so he could defend himself from villain's that want to attack being the SSS-ranked heroes' son.

So, in other words, he's untouchable. One wrong word and your entire life were fucked, he was even loved by everyone from heroes to villains. He's never been punched by anyone unless it would be training for him, but even then he hardly felt pain.

He was sitting on a throne that was just handed to him.

But that all changed today, as the words from the kind Eric finally made me snap.

"Why don't you just kill your faggot self, not even you're own parents loved you enough to keep you, they even tried to burn you alive, hahaha!!"

I had enough and threw a hard punch, it hit his face and sent the blonde boy flying to the ground. My bully stood there stunned like it was the first time someone punched him with anger, which it probably was from how everyone sucks up to him. I quickly took advantage of the shock that was there, I ran out of the classroom before they could do anything else.

I made it out of the school and headed towards the window that my book fell from. Upon arrival, I see the book in the fountain with fish eating the book. I took it out and quickly dried it off, shoving it back into my bag and making my way to the orphanage.

"Hehe, I guess my feelings are fish food now," I said.

I was once again left alone, with no one there to help me. I was always alone, so it didn't make much of a difference to him.

Across the street down the lane, under the bridge. My feet moved on their own, my mind running on autopilot, taking me back to the only place where I grew up.

Laughing disrupted my thoughts and I looked up, just in time to see a white-haired man with a bloody knife in his hand. He was wearing clothes that once looked like they were white but now they were scarlet red.

"Hehe, hey look! I have a new plaything, hehe!" He laughed, he looked up from the ground that he was looking at and I saw his horrible eyes. His eyes were a murky green with insanity dancing along with them.

As I was thinking about the appearance of the mad man, he ran at me with the point of the knife facing my heart and his free hand making a grabbing gesture towards me.

I tried to dodge the knife but I found myself frozen, as a cold breeze ran down my spine, a feeling death shadowing over me.

I don't know how long I stood there for as the knife was penetrating my heart, but I saw it was dusk outside of the tunnel.

I stood there, the man pulled the knife out and ran away. I leaned backward and started to fall, as well as all hope I had in the world, losing all of it.

*SPLAT*

And then I was drowning in a lake of black.

But as I died, I heard a soft voice saying, "It's not your time, not yet my little Phoenix."

Then, I felt myself rising. Rising from the ashes as a new person, a new being. It felt like I was being burned alive, but it was soothing in a way, a way that it would have not been.

And then I was no longer in a lake of black but in a sea of fire.
