I signed for the shipment and closed the door behind him when he left. Then I opened the boxes, which contained, as expected, suits, shirts, ties, and dress shoes, plus stacks of underwear and socks. Il Duca, or someone who worked for him, was extremely thorough.
When the suits and shirts were laid out on the bed, I went to the telephone, called downstairs, and arranged to have someone available to press them after our one o’clock meeting in the boardroom was over. I also ordered lunch to be served at twelve. Then I went back to the den, picked up a report, and began to read.
