“We have several interviews,” he said, “which cover much of the same ground. I found this one to be the most interesting because of the woman’s personal connection with the events.”

Angelina looked very pensive for a bit, and finally said, “Do you think this old woman really believed that she had known my mother more than eighty years earlier?”

“According to several eyewitness accounts,” Father said, “she did.”

“But how is that possible?”

“Dani,” father said, “this is where you come in.”

Dani paused for a moment, presumably choosing his words very carefully, and said, “Angelina, have you heard of radiocarbon dating?”

“Of course. We read about it in high school, even before I started attending the university.”

“I tested a small piece of bone from your mother’s body,” he said.

“Why would you do that?”

“Because I—that is we—wanted to know how old she was when she died.”

“She was in her early thirties, wasn’t she?”
