“What’s up?” he said.

“Blood coming to the lab. Patient’s name is Angelina Decaminada.”

“The woman your father was with at the concert, right?”

“Right. Stretch that blood out, and run every test in the world, including DNA. If I’d had her history before the blood was drawn, I’d have ordered a larger sample.”

“Care to tell me why?”

“When we get home.”

“Okay, bye.”

As we rode the tram home, I could tell that he was dying to ask me about the patient, but I pretended not to notice. As luck would have it, Lucia had the evening off, so I stalled Dani until the triplets were down for the count. That being accomplished, I went to the den, removed a bottle from the wine cooler, and poured each of us a glass.

He waited patiently until we were settled on the sofa, then he said, “Okay, give, and this had better be good.”

“Oh, it’s much better than good I think, or at least I hope it is.”

“Quit stalling. Tell me.”

I told him everything I thought pertinent about my new patient.
