The Chief Part 3

The sun's rays shone brightly upon the Stonewalker village this evening as the four teens walked outside after the Chief.

From gazing at the outside Data, Data guessed that the building was the town hall or courthouse by its exterior. The building appeared to be of a gothic design, old stone with grey gargoyles glaring down at them at all the corners.

"Anyone else getting an uneasy feeling with those watching us?" Pierce whispered, letting out a shuddering breath as he shook his whole body.

"Do any of you get an Elizabethan feel?" Cam asked, looking at Sophie as they walked into the town.

Sophie looked at the homes, her gaze going from bottom to top, seeing the way each house was built even the alleyways where they walked.  "It's like London when Elizabeth first ruled. I get a Tudor building feel from the larger homes," She whispered.

Data glanced at the Chief who walked further ahead of them, alongside the Major, leading the way to wherever they were taking them.

"I don't like this," he whispered, clutching his belt of tools in panic.

"I agree," Pierce says, looking at Cam who was watching the Chief and Major carefully. "We can't stay here. We need to get home."

Cameron nodded his head in agreement, his eyes moving back and forth between Pierce and the two officials in front of them.

"The only way we're getting home is by asking them," he glared straight ahead.

Sophie went to open her mouth to speak but instead closed it shut when she spotted where they were going, and what they were walking toward.

"Oh. My. God!" she screeched and covered her mouth with one of her hands, stopping in her tracks.

The boys turned to her questions swirling in their minds of why she screamed. They watched her point to the left and look where she pointed only to gasp themselves, eyes widening.

"I did not see that coming..." Cameron said, his eyes focused on the tall one-eyed monster that was standing fifty feet away, growling at the Paladins who stood below attacking it.

"Cyclops!" Data shouts before he dashes to hide behind Sophie, cowering behind her with his hands on her shoulders.

Pierce and Cam stood together in front of Sophie and Data, their eyes on the Cyclops and not the Major and Chief who were making their way towards it.

"Got any plans, blue eyes?" Pierce questioned Cam.

"Nope," Cam replied, not even hesitating to answer as his mind went blank.

"I got none either," Pierce says.

"I have one. We run!" Sophie screamed, grabbing Data's hand placed on her shoulder and leading him down another alleyway. Pierce and Cam sprint after them, none of them sure where they were going.

It was beginning to dawn on Sophie that the way she was running was a dead end, leading to a wall where someone in the town had set up a little street store for buying herbs.

She turned another way, trying to make her way far from the cyclops but all it ended up doing was bringing them closer to the fight.

The four teens exited the alley they had been in to come onto the main road, the very place where the Paladins were fighting the cyclops.

"Maybe someone else should lead the way..." Sophie murmured, looking up at the cyclops in both fear and amazement.

Cameron noticed the spark in her eyes. He tapped her on the shoulder and shook his head, silently telling her a no to whatever she was thinking in her mind.

Sophie nodded her head, following him as he went to lead them down a different alleyway, trying to find a way out of the fighting ground.

"Why in the blazes would the Chief even want us here?" Data questioned loudly.

Sophie, Cam and Pierce all stopped running abruptly, causing Data to run into Pierce's back.

"Ouch!"

Cameron turned to Data who now lay on the ground, rubbing his head. "Yes, Data. Why would the Chief want us here? Back home whenever we had tried to meddle in police business they would make us leave. Sometimes make us go into the police car and get driven home by the police," He looked down the alleyway, back to where they had come. "The Chef wants us here. So let's find out why," Cam says, taking off running back down the alley where they had come from.

Pierce made his way to stand between Sophie's sight of Cameron, silently begging her not to follow the blue-eyed boy.

"Take Data and go back to the building we came from. I need to make sure he doesn't get killed," Sophie told Pierce before she stepped around him and took off after Cameron.

Pierce sighed and helped Data up to a standing position. "Sometimes I wish she would just let us go," he whispered to Data.

Pierce and Data took off to the town hall, while Sophie and Cameron came closer to where the Paladins were fighting off the Cyclops.

The cyclops was over twenty feet tall, his body of grey colour while his hair was a light brown and long but looked similar to straw. Its eye was what made it stand out compared to any old giant. The one-eyed monster, the pupil black but no iris, scaring Sophie and Cameron from its unfamiliarity.

"How many times did we read about cyclops?" Sophie asked Cameron, hinting at all the visits to the library they would make on weekends.

"Over twenty times at the least. Pierce was always so fascinated with the one eyes," Cam said and returned Sophie's look.

They smiled.

"You get a sharp and long object. Go stand up on that battle tower and wait for my signal," Sophie ordered Cameron.

The two of them shook hands, nodded at one another before they went their separate ways.

Cameron ran past the paladin's stopping once he got to the Chief and Major who were preparing spears they got from the weaponry, only to witness Cam rush by them, grab one of the spears, then dash off to the battle tower closest to them.

"Cameron!" Chief Stoenwalker shouts, "return that spear now!"

Cameron didn't stop, he hardly even heard the Chief as he got to the tower and made his way up the many stairs, getting there as fast as he could so that when Sophie gave the signal he was ready.

Sophie quickly walked closer to the cyclops, ignoring the pulls and shouts of paladins who were around for her to get as far away from it as possible.

She came to stand before it, watching it lean its head down at her and growl.

"Hello!" Sophie said pleasantly, smiling at the cyclops. She watched as it looked at her bewildered, it's one eye-widening. "My name is Sophie. May I ask what your name is?" she questioned it.

The cyclops lowered itself down to Sophie, looking her sincere eyes directly.

"You... you want to know my name?" the cyclops asked, a rough feminine voice coming from it.

"I do indeed, miss...?" Sophie says, drawing out her question, waiting for an answer.

"Um...Miss Trianon," the lady cyclops answered.

"Miss Trianon, why are you attacking these people?" Sophie asked her softly.

Trianon gave a saddened expression, looking at Sophie softly. "You shouldn't be here Sophie. You should go far away from here, and heed my warning-" Trianon spoke only to stop at the sound of a loud horn echoing from the distance, her face becoming panicked. "Run!" she shouts at Sophie before she stood and hurried out of the town.

Sophie glanced back at the Chief and Major, turning her eyes to Cameron who stood on top of the watchtower with a confused look of his own. But that was wiped right off their faces when Sophie saw something heading toward Cam from the distance.

"Cameron!"

Cam turned quickly to face where Sophie was looking, his face dropping as he watched the large on fire bolder heading toward him and he froze. Just as it was about to hit him, he reacted, bending down and holding up his hands, hoping to block it.

But it never hit.

Cam opened his eyes to see the bolder almost hitting his hands, stopping mid-air. He glanced back at Sophie who looked at him with blank eyes, while everyone else looked at him with awe.

The boulder fell to the ground when Cam dropped his hands, and silence filled the town.
