Testing

The next day at lunch, the 5 all met at the cafeteria's entrance on time. Many people looked at them with curious faces while others just minded their own business.

"Let's go to the training room." Rem walked towards the training room with the other 4 walking beside her.

When the group arrived, they found a section of the training room that was empty. The training room was huge and had many people spending their lunch in this room, training and sparring with others.

"I want to see what you guys can do. You may spar with me each separately. All you have to do is getting this wooden sword out of my hand. Give me everything you've got. Does anyone want to go first?" Rem was curious about who would go first.

"I'll go." Kaito walked to the empty sparring area.

"I can use my dual swords, correct?" Kaito asked.

"Yes, of course." Rem walked towards the empty sparring area, a few meters away from Kaito.

"Great!" Kaito grabbed his dual swords and got into his fighting stance.

"I'll be the referee." Karina offered.

The students in the training room all began to gather around after hearing that the principal's son was going to have a spar with someone else.

"The match will begin in 3..! 2..! 1..! Start!!!" Karina yelled, stepping back from Rem and Kaito.

Kaito used his fire magic and surround his dual swords with fire.

'He knows how to apply magic on his weapon without breaking it..? Impressive.' Rem was impressed since not many people his age could do that.

{It only took you a few weeks to master this. What's so impressive about that?}

'Whatever, it's still impressive!' Rem argued.

Kaito then dashed towards Rem, using his full speed. Rem didn't move at all. While Rem was standing still, Kaito used swung his sword from his right hand and tried slashing Rem's sword handle. Before Kaito's fiery blade collided with Rem's wooden sword, Rem quickly dodged Kaito's attack by stepping to the right. As Rem dodged Kaito's attack, Kaito used applied fire magic to his left leg and tried kicking Rem's sword off from her hand. Instead of dodging the attack, Rem faces it head-on. She applied mana to her wooden sword and blocked Kaito's fiery sword. Surprised, Kaito stepped back.

"Is that all you've got?" Rem asked, not satisfied with Kaito's skills.

"Of course not." Kaito's answered, applying fire magic on every inch of his body.

'The Fire could protect and hurt him. He can also harm everything around him if he's not careful. At least he knows how to control his magic well.' Rem thought.

Rem was waiting for Kaito to attack but then, she noticed his eyes glowing. Kaito now had a strong aura around him. If not for the magic barrier, everyone who's watching would have collapsed.

'Hmmm... He's trying to pressure me with his aura..? Not bad..!' Rem was impressed that Kaito knew how to control his magic well but she never expected him to know how to have such a strong aura.

After standing on the same spot for a while, Kaito suddenly dashes towards Rem. This time, Kaito was twice as fast as before. Every time Rem blocked his attack, Kaito became faster.

'Interesting... His attacking skills need to be improved on more but other than that, his speed and magic control is pretty good.' Rem accepted Kaito's skills and decided to end the spar.

Rem swung her sword. All of a sudden, Kaito's dual swords flew out of his hand. Rem's attack was so fast that nobody could figure out what had happened. In shock, Kaito admitted defeat and accepted Rem as his leader. He knew Rem didn't use her full powers but for now, this was more than enough for Kaito.

"Oh, u-um... The spar has ended! The winner is... Rem!" Karina said, surprised.

Many were whispering and muttering to each other after the spar has ended. Everyone who saw the spar between Kaito and Rem all wondered who the person that defeated Kaito was. Rem wasn't well known throughout the school yet, so barely anyone actually knew about her appearance and skills.

"You did well." Rem told Kaito.

"Who wants to spar with me next?" Rem asked.

"I'm more of a healer than an attacker..." Yukino said sadly.

"It's fine. You don't have to exactly spar with me. You can just show me your healing skills later." Rem replied.

"Alright then. Can Yukio go next? He's an ice element type user. A mage, to be exact." Yukino said proudly.

Yukio nodded, wanting to spar with Rem.

"Alright then. Karina, mind being the referee for this spar as well?" Rem asked.

"Of course I can." Karina smiled.

Yukio walked to the opposite side of Rem and got ready.

"The match will begin in 3..! 2..! 1..! Start!!!" Karina yelled, stepping back.

Yukio created 4-5 ice spikes in around 10 seconds. The ice spikes were aimed at Rem. Rem blocked the ice spikes using her shadow magic. While Yukio shot the ice spikes using his ice magic at Rem, he formed a sharp sword made out of ice. After creating the ice dagger, Yukio stood there.

'What's his plan..?' Rem wondered.

Half a minute has passed and Yukio finally made a move. Using his right foot, he stomped the floor and ice suddenly formed everywhere. The floor and walls were now all covered in ice.

'Smart move... He knows how to create his own domain to fight in...' Rem got ready for any attacks Yukio had.

Yukio used his skill and many spikes of ice formed below Rem. However, the ice spikes weren't for attacking. It was to trap Rem. Now, Rem cannot see in which direction Yukio was going to attack her. Rem stood still, being as calm as usual, waiting for Yukio's next attack. Rem could sense Yukio's every move.

'He's too predictable and loud. This won't be good in a real battle Other than that, he's got talent...' Rem used her shadow magic to break the ice.

'The ice isn't as strong either...' Rem thought, activating her aura.

Rem's then controlled the shadow and destroyed Yukio's dagger and all the ice. Yukio's mana was very low and he would have lost. He was hiding behind a tall ice block but Rem found him easily.

Surprised that Rem found his hiding spot in an instant, Yukio bowed and admitted defeat.

"The winner is... Rem!" Karina announced.

The people who decided to stay were more impressed than ever.

"You could use magic as well??? I thought your job was a swordsman or something!" Yukino said excitedly, speed walking towards Rem.

"Remie's a shadow mage," Karina said, unfazed by Rem's skills.

"I thought her job was a swordsman as well." Kaito nodded.

"Is it that surprising that someone can use magic and swordsmanship..?" Rem asked, wondering why everyone was freaking out.

"Not many people can do that, you know!" Yukino said in an 'obviously' voice.

Yukio nodded in agreement.

"Yukio, I've been wondering... Why do you always wear gloves?" Karina asked curiously.

Rem realized since she first met the twins. Yukio was always wearing white gloves that covered his hands. Rem never asked since she knew it was rude and there must be a reason why he does that.

"He doesn't want to talk about it," Yukino said, answering for her brother.

Yukio nodded slowly, clenching his fists.

*Ringgg!!!

"We better go to class now," Karina said awkwardly, regretting the fact that she asked Yukio about the gloves he always wore.

Everyone got their stuff and left for their next class. Throughout the rest of the classes, the atmosphere around them was uncomfortably awkward.
