Chapter 88

Early in the morning at Light town...

There is a police car parked outside the building, and inside the car were three detectives "Detective Caleb, do you think a sane person can be in a dilapidated building like this one?" asked the detective sitting at the wheel.

"I was confused myself when I cam here first, but the locals said that men went in and out of the place, and those expensive-looking cars sometimes parked here." answered a detective Caleb

"That sounds fishy" echoed another

"It was hard to get a single local to even speak to us. We had to move around till we found some who didn't scared of them. What bothers me is the fact that something fishy is going on in this town, but no one could take it upon themselves to report"

"Being a local here, I could tell you two that whoever runs whatever lies beyond this ugly-looking building is a powerful figure."

What do you mean by that, detective Mogan?" asked detective Caleb

"With everything that you narrated, one could conclude that a lot is going on beyond this facade of a dilapidated building. I mean, come to think of it, from the outlook of this structure, one would be scared to even sit in for fear of it falling, but these men go in till the following day, not to forget the expensive-looking cars. Not the question is, what is going on inside there?"

Detective Mogan was a local of the town and has worked in the town for two years now. He was always skeptical of the building and everything that went on inside, but he had no power to go further into the investigation.

"Sound like you have been onto them. What happened?" asked the detective on the wheel

"More like who happened" came detective Mogans response

He was tired of corrupt policemen and they had so many of them at the light town police station. The rot ran from the bosses down to their subordinates. The mere sight of money, their dignity, and all that they swore to protect flies out the window.

The other two turned to look at Mogan as if silently agreeing on one thing, and they each came to one conclusion. Seems like the chief at the station was paid well for his silence.

"I can conclusively say without a doubt that there is a lab behind those walls. How can you explain the wolf found in this area looking all lifeless? Whatever is going on here is illegal"

"Bingo," said the detective on the wheel "You are a smart man."

"This is getting scary. If a low-rank detective like you could drive to that conclusion, what are the odds that your bosses don't know about what is going on here? I could say that they are in on everything that is going on here"

"Enough with the talking, let's go and knock on that door"

The three of them went to knock at the door of the building knowing well enough that they were being watched. If what is going on inside is illegal, then there were cameras outside. Ones they couldn't see despite looking around endlessly.

As they waited for the door to be opened the three of them continued to look around, but they wouldn't remove the weird inkling when the locals passing by looked at them.

Both detective Mogan and Caleb could see the look on faces of everyone that passed by; it was like a silent warning. It wouldn't take much for the detectives to read a little deeper into the words being said through the eyes.

"How may I help you?" said a voice from the open door

Detective Caleb raised his police badge and introduced himself "I am detective Caleb, and these are my partners, detective Mogan and detective Lucas"

"And how can I be of help, detectives?"

The tone of voice made detective Caleb send the stranger who had refused to introduce himself a smirk. Detective Mogan was kicking invincible dirt on the ground while listening in silently. He knew how people like this worked, and he could smell the fear oozing out of the man.

"We would like to ask a few questions, can we speak to the in charge?" asked detective Lucas

"As you can see, I am the only one around"

"Can we come inside"

"No" the man answered immediately

Detective Caleb had made the request knowing well enough that they wouldn't be granted access, but the man's immediate response sent another message along with the denial. Something was fishy.

"And why is that?" Detective Mogan was beginning to have fun, so he egged the man on "I could conclude that you are hiding something, you know"

"You can think whatever you want, it is private property, and I have a right to let in someone or not to. For as long as you have no official documents to grant you access to my house, then your work here is done." With that, the door was closed in their faces

"The three men looked at each other and smirked. The conclusion was that something big was sitting inside the building.
