Back at 02, Alex could not take his eyes off Denis. The silence was overwhelming, and the tension needed a shart knife for it to collapse. They wondered how everything was going to unfold; what was Alpha going to do to him? Is he going to kill him? These questions were ringing endlessly in the minds of everyone in the room, including Denis, who was at the mercy of receiving the knife.
"You know' Alex propped his elbows on his knees and clasped his fingers at the front, "I want to see the boldness you've been carrying for the past three months. The one that gave you the confidence to think that you can make an enemy out of me. That is what I want to see."
He scoffed, and this taunting, tiny laugh came with it. The wait was so long for Denis; he had surrendered to death when they found out about his betrayal and sent him to the 02. He knew what his fate was, and he only carried shame on his head. However, one thing that he was sure of was that the Alpha did not know the whole truth, something he was going to use to his advantage.
"So, you will tell me the whys, hows, and when all this thing with the hunters started." Alex wanted to know what prompted Denis to destroy his family. He tried his best to ensure that the few remaining wolves lived comfortably; one of these things included him living openly among humans, although he hated it. Looking at Denis, who was quiet despite all he had said, pushed Alex to the extreme; his claws came out, and the fur was all over his body. He called his power of patience when he walked into the room earlier, and Denis had tried it all at the moment.
The rest of the people in the room got so scared; he was the only one who could half shift and still be able to speak. "SPEAK" Using his Alpha tone, Alex compelled. Alex rarely used his Alpha tone because he wanted to be a good leader for his people; he wanted them to be comfortable with him. But, unfortunately, it seems like he was wrong all this while.
"They wanted to work with us and promised good cooperation." Came Denis' trembling voice
The regret that lay deep in Alpha Alex's eyes was evident. So ignorant was he that he did not see that Denis was such a dumb person to assume the position of the delta. Yes, he inherited the position from his father since they had been delta for years.
"For a thirty-year-old man, you are quite an idiot. How could I not see it all this while? You are so incompetent" The menacing tone of Alex came through.
"I guess you were so busy pleasing the humans to see it," Denis said as he looked at the Alpha.
Old man Eliot and the rest could not believe their eyes and ears either. They wouldn't believe it if someone had told them something like this. How can any of them have the guts to look the Alpha in the eyes and still have the nerve to speak down at him.
On the other hand, Cross couldn't take it anymore, "Watch your mouth, Denis. you are already a traitor as we speak."
Alex, who had turned his back to Denis, had a little flashback to ten years ago when screams were the only thing that had surrounded them; the pain and fear that was in everyone's eyes. He recalled how the Alpha, his father, was beheaded before everyone else by then. Then, his thoughts jumped to the current period when he saw the two bodies of his men and how his beta Daniel looked so injured. Daniel would be dead if it weren't for his blood by now. A furious growl went through him, and he turned, lifting Denis by the neck, and slammed him hard on the wall behind. Then causing the chair, he was on to break into pieces.
Denis' eyes were turning red because he couldn't breathe. He tried to get rid of the hand wrapped around his throat using his hands. Alex, on the other hand, was only seeing red. He pulled Denis towards him with another force and slammed him back onto the wall, causing a little crack.
He growled in his face and asked him to repeat his earlier statement. Alex never wasted his time talking much whenever anyone was brought into the 02, but for the sake of old time, he thought that maybe Denis was pushed to do what he did. But hearing his earlier statement, Alex concluded that there seemed to be propaganda spreading among the wolves about him. So he released Denis, and he fell at his feet, coughing in a bid to get air back into his lungs.
Alex squatted down enough to whisper into Denis's ears, "I will drag every rat hiding in that little hole you created, and I promise to give them the same fate." Then, lifting Denis' chin to look him in the eyes and menacingly pronounced the following words, "like the one you will get. But, I promise to make it slower."
The statement triggered Denis to appoint that he cried pitifully while begging the Alpha to forgive him.
"He might forgive you, but I will never," a voice came through and the beta walked in.
