Chapter 29

"We don't get heat. We get power surges on days and nights of a full moon."

That didn't ease my worries one bit.

Suddenly, I felt her body un-tense and go limp. I looked down at her and let out a breath of relief. She was awake, but it was clear that she was no longer in any pain. I placed my hand on her forehead and frowned. She was burning up.

"Look!" My father pointed towards her hand that rested on the road. My eyes widened at the sight. Cracks that glowed a vibrant orange were in the pavement under her hand. They stopped after a small distance from her hand.

Norah tried to get up, making me push her back down by her shoulders. "No, no, no," I said. "You're not feeling well." I turned to my father who was kneeling next to me. "Let's take her home." He nodded and got up, but didn't make it very far as Norah grabbed his hand.

"No, I'm fine. See?" She forced herself back up and stood to her feet. I got up aswell and grabbed her arm.
