Darren heaved out a huge sigh of relief. He was lucky he happened to be inside his home office when Ivan had video-called him. Otherwise, all the planning he had done for an anniversary surprise for his boyfriend would have gone down the drain.

“Was that Ivan?”

Darren almost jumped off the chair he had been sitting on during his phone conversation with Ivan. He patted his chest and almost whined at his mother, but he refrained from doing so. That would be childish.

“Yeah. What are you doing here?”

Linda made her way closer to Darren before responding to the question. “Looking for you. You were supposed to get your hand-held tablet and go out there into the garden to talk to the event organizer, but you’d been gone for quite a while. I’m here to remind you we have limited time to pull off your anniversary surprise. You really should have let the event organizer take care of everything. It will be much simpler then.”
