Chapter 4: Unemployed Wanderer

Lin Yike had been suffering from a high fever for over a month before finally recovering somewhat.

The first thing she did after getting better was to dig out a business card and call Gu Jingting.

They spoke on the phone in the morning, and he came to the hospital that evening.

The two sat face to face.

Lin Yike looked fragile and pale, but her clear and bright eyes suggested that her soul was resilient and stubborn, as if it were only her body that had been weakened by illness.

Her quiet gaze fell on Gu Jingting, and this was the first time she had really sized him up.

He wore a dark shirt, broad-shouldered and long-legged, and whether it was due to the lighting or not, he looked especially tall and profound sitting there.

He rolled up his sleeves, and on his left wrist was a semi-old steel watch.

A man's watch is often a symbol of his status, like a woman's handbag. But his watch gave him away.

Lin Yike guessed that Gu Jingting's family background was probably not very good.

"How old are you?" Lin Yike asked first.

"Twenty-eight years old," he replied.

"What do you do?" Lin Yike asked again.

"Are you checking my household registration?" Gu Jingting raised an eyebrow, showing no emotions.

"Don't I have the right to know about the current situation of my child's father?" Lin Yike said sternly.

"I do a little business with my friends," Gu Jingting cooperated with his answer and nodded to indicate that she could continue.

Lin Yike frowned. She thought to herself, unemployed wanderers usually like to say that they are doing business. She had no good impression of his answer.

"Do you have a fixed place to live now?"

"No," Gu Jingting replied truthfully.

He had too many properties under his name and did not stay in one place.

Lin Yike's pretty embroidered eyebrows furrowed again. As expected, she had guessed correctly. Her initial judgment of Gu Jingting was that he was a typical small-time white-collar worker who had no legitimate job and lived off others.

"If you don't object, I can take the child back to my parents' place," Gu Jingting said again.

The Gu family is a century-old family, and half of the West City area is owned by the Gu family. The ancestral home of the Gu family is located there, a 700,000 square meter estate that rivals the palace.

Lin Yike frustratingly rubbed her forehead. So not only was this guy a freeloader, but he was also dependent on his parents!

Gu Jingting handed her two agreements: a prenuptial agreement and a child custody agreement.

Lin Yike didn't even bother to look at the prenuptial agreement and tore it in half, throwing it into the recycling bin at her feet.

Gu Jingting watched her actions and didn't express any opinion. It seemed like her choice had nothing to do with him.

Lin Yike opened the remaining child custody agreement and without reading the contents, signed her name on the last page.

Therefore, she wasn't aware of the compensation included in the agreement, which included properties, bonds, funds, and a small listed company.

Gu Jingting didn't care about money and wouldn't be stingy with the woman who bore his child.

His indifferent attitude had a hint of casualness, and he didn't remind her to check the contents of the agreement.

"Consider me unlucky then." Lin Yike threw the signed child custody agreement back at him, along with a bunch of keys and a bank card.

"I have an apartment on Lin'an Road. After the baby is born, you can move in together, and I will regularly pay child support. If you don't waste it, it should be enough to cover your father and son's expenses."
