Chapter 3: Polar opposite

We got home all nice and tidy after we went to Carter's favorite hangout place. His friend were so friendly I almost passed away due to sunshine overdosed.

"How's your day?" mom asked.

"It's awesome!" Harvey answered. I slowly laid my back on the couch. Harvey just jumped and sit in. I almost lost my balance and fallout the couch.

"Good!" mom exclaimed.

"They really look like they are close. They're so warm welcoming and mom, they have a lot of...dogs..." Harvey slow down by the mere mentioning dogs. Remembering how Carter reacted before.

"Dogs?" mom asked.

"Yes, they have...a lot of pets. They are not hostile mom, and... his friends were really good at sports" I almost choked trying to suppress my laugh at how Harvey subtly changing the trail of conversation from dogs to sports. Wow. Wow, Harvey Spencer! That's genius!. Brilliant. They continue to talk about Carter's friend. I fall asleep listening to Harvey's enthusiastic story about how good the golden boy's friends. He even thought they're a frat. He mentioned that earlier when we guys are having our dinner, thanks to all the saint and they just laughed it off. I almost slam my brother that time. Harvey's mouth will surely be the death of him.

I woke up after having a satisfactory sleep. Geez. I could've sleep more if Harvey didn't banged my door early in the morning.

"Wake up, Snow white! We need to hurry! Carter's going to pick us up!" Harvey yelled and I heard a running footsteps afterwards.

"Okay...good morning" I spoke. I stared at my ceiling about five minutes without moving. I'm torn. I want to sleep but I need to get up and fix my things. This is the first day of class. I hate it. Could we just fast forward everything and move on to the pretty things in life? geez. But I know we can't.

"Here's your food" Mom handed me my plate with a sunny side up. Then handed a plate with scrambled egg to my brother.

"Thank you, mom" We said in unison. We ate our breakfast quietly and wait at the front porch.

"Why do we have to do car pooling?" I asked. I hate waiting.

"Well, it's fun!" Harvey answered. Of course. It's fun. For him. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Yeah...sounds fun" I said. Sarcastically. We waited for about ten minutes until Carter arrived with 4x4 pick up.

"Looks cool, isn't it?" Harvey said like he's really proud. I claimed at the back. Harvey scolded me and said that I should go inside. I just made a face "Audrey!" Harvey called.

"Oh, let her be. If she wants to occupy the back. Then, let her. She's not a kid anymore, Harvey" Carter said. I smirked. At last! Carter said something beneficial to me. Harvey didn't speak but looks like he's going to give something earful later at home. Carter drives carefully. I like sitting at the back of pickup trucks. It's refreshing and I wouldn't want to hear anything about how my brother is fond of Carter anymore. I rest my back at the back facing the end of the car. I'm on the left side, drivers side. They opened the car windows so I can still hear them talking but I can't generally understand their whole conversation.

I put my earphones on and put it to the highest volume I can tolerate. Listening to music helps me focus on the things I'm doing. It's like blocking all the distractions around me. I'm in the middle of reading a book when the car suddenly stopped. I removed my earphones and check what is happening.

"What is it, Carter?" I asked "Why did we stopped?" I added. I heard Carter cussed.

"The fuck is this cat doing here" I heard him murmured after he get down the car and slammed the car door so hard even Harvey who's fond of the golden boy was quite surprised.

"Cat?" Harvey asked. I stand up from sitting at the back and look in front of the car. I smiled looking at the tiny cat in front of the massive 4x4 car.

"Nice. Who is the owner? I bet it is not a stray" I spoke.

"Of course it's not" Carter seriously answered and started looking around like looking for someone. Carter stops looking around when he realized something and looked at the sky "Oh, it's sunny day. Maybe they're asleep" He said and get inside the car immediately.

"Hey...what about the cat?" I asked.

"Let it be. You should be more worried about yourself if you pick that animal and keep it to yourself. You'll definitely regret that" Carter said in serious tone and told me to transfer inside the car where I can sit comfortably. I didn't ask anything and just transfer.

When we arrived at the University it around eight thirty in the morning.

"Carter!" Kirko yelled. We almost jumped from out seats when Kirko and Evan suddenly showed up beside the car we're in. How did they get closed to the car without us even noticing they're coming?

"Oh! hi, Snow white!" Evan greeted. I almost made a face. Even here? Geez. Why do they have to call me that.

We split up upon entering the main building. I intentionally lied that I have to find my room because I don't want to be in a crowded area. They said they want to head to the cafeteria and I'm like, oh no. No. I slow down my pace as I walked in the silent corridor. I went to the right wing and found the silence. I went straight to the library and borrowed a book. I didn't plan on reading inside the library. I heard they've auditorium here where music students were playing in the morning and the room will be vacant onwards.

Click.

I closed the door and slowly walked towards the red velvet seats. I'm about to sit when I started to realized that someone is playing a piano. He is playing a piano. My jaw drop in awe. He's playing a smooth piece. It's like a lullaby. I stood there listening to him play his piece. I stared at the man playing the piano. I can only look at his lean back, his raven black hair that looks shiny, and his pale white skin. I wouldn't be called snow white if I grew up with this guy. He would be snow white instead of me. He looks so majestic.

I felt startled the moment he's about to turn his head, while still playing. I quickly bow down and hide behind the red velvet seats.

"Oh, shit" I cursed. Why did I even hide? it's not like I'm a creepy dude. I clutched my t-shirt in an anxious state. My heart beats so fast I think I'm having a palpitations. While contemplating if I will show myself, I heard a loud thud "What the hell..." I spoke. He left. The auditorium became oddly cold.

I left the auditorium. I lost interest reading the book I borrowed after I heard the man playing.

"This feels so shitty..." I cursed again. I went to the room where my first schedule will be held. Ofcourse there's a lot of students. I quickly sit at the back seat. Exactly when the professor came, something hit my head. A roll of paper. I look where the paper is from. My eyes widened in shock.

"What the fuck" I cursed again. Carter smiled at me sheepishly. His smile were faded the moment his eyes landed to someone, the person who I never felt the presence. Not until now. I looked at the guy beside me. No. I stared at him.

"Eyes on the board" He said. His voice were very manly yet so serene. I blinked my eyes a few times before I even realized I am really giving this dude a look. I gulped. This is so annoying. I didn't intend to look at Carter but the way he looked back at the person besides me, saying that he personally knew this guy. He's giving him a cold look.

"You know him?" I asked the boy beside me. He looked at me and didn't say anything. I quite felt embarrassed, but the moment I stared at those blue oceanic orbs. I felt drowned. He have a sea blue eyes.

"I did" He plainly said and immediately turn his focus on the professor. I just nod. Okay.

That was quite...something.

When there's a chance to glance, I did. I will glace at the man beside me, at his blue ocean eyes. I'm in the middle at staring at him when something hit my face. Paper roll. I rolled my eyes and look for the golden boy. He's frowning at me. He mouthed "Why are you staring at him?" I just ignore him and went back to writing my notes.

I forgot he's my brother's friend. I don't want my brother to hear that I'm drooling over some dude, I don't want Harvey to show up at the front door any moment.

"Why are you frowning at me?" I asked Carter after I shoved the book he's borrowing before the professor left.

"Why are you speaking with him?" Carter said making my forehead knotted.

"I just asked him if you knew each other since you're glaring at the man beside me" I explained.

"Luh! ofcourse we knew each other!" Carter exclaimed. I look at him with disbelief.

"Are you on your period? you look specially irritable today" I joked. He made a face.

"Seriously?" Carter spoke.

"Carty!" Harvey yelled. We both looked at the end of the corridor. He's running like a kid right beside Evan and Kirko. Carter's friend immediately sense that something is wrong with the golden boy, even Harvey. The moment of happiness suddenly died down.

"Is there something wrong?" Evan asked. Carter just shrugged and walked ahead. Leaving us all behind.

"What's that?" Harvey asked. I rolled my eyes.

"He's on his period" I said and left. I heard Evan and Kirko laughing.

I got to know the person who sat beside me earlier. His name is Dylan. Dylan West. Carter told me. Looks like he never liked Mr.West. Carter and Dylan are like sun and moon. They're polar opposite. It's the calm demeanor of Dylan, while Carter has this aggressive type. A sly smirked form in my lips upon remembering the beautiful piece, Dylan played at the auditorium.

Yes. That's Dylan. The man who played it so beautifully. The man who slammed the door. He just brushed it off.

"Of course that you, I know" That's the only reaction I've got. Nonchalant. Very nonchalant. No reaction at all. I stopped at the middle of walking when I saw a black cat.

The cat is staring back at me that's why I felt uneasy. The cat is eeriely beautiful. I slowly bent down as I stare at the cat. I like staring at people. Even animals. It's a bad habit my mom always lecture me about. Well, I like staring. Can't help it. More likely on beautiful creatures like this. I slowly bend forward to touch the cat. It's not moving. Just staring at me. I took that as a go signal. My palm was inch away from the cat's head when I heard Harvey yelling. Calling me by my name.

"Audrey!" Harvey yelled. The cat become startled and in a blink of an eye, it's gone. I clenched my fist "Oh! you're here!" Harvey said as his eyes landed on me. I just nod. What a waste. I didn't got to touch or pet the cat. Hoping to see that cat again lurking around the campus.

But wait. How did that cat got here? it's too far away where it was seen earlier. It was the same cat that almost got hit by Carter's car. Anyway, not my problem. I'll see it again, if the heaven forbid.
