Chapter 1

I am in a hospital helping people as a nurse with no training it cant be helped all the nurses have to be at the front lines with the war going on so if the soldiers get sick or injured they can treat them I am also sick but I am forced to work because of how many people are getting sick the only ones that aren't sick are the 1 percent and its even starting to affect them now I see on the news on my phone that there have been strange incidents all around the globe and then I hear a Nuke alarm go off I think to myself "they finally started using nukes" I see people scrambling back home to say good bye

I get to my house I sit down and look at the pictures of my family they died helping people I would trade my life for them ever since they died I went into a depression and decided to abandon my name I had so much disappointment to my name and start becoming a nurse to make my family proud maybe one day I will be worthy of the name again

I go to my bed and see a book on it one that I never bought I think to myself "did someone break into my house just to leave a book" I dont see any signs of forced entry I go to grab the book and my hand gets pricked blood flows into the book it just disappears I think to myself "oh my god did I just become a novel protagonist" I see a portion of the book light up so as any slightly crazy person would do I give it more blood and the continues to light up until it's glowing so bright I could barely cover it as all this is going on a nuclear bomb landed outside of the city far enough away that only a large amount a radiation but even that was deadly for humans the only reason that MC (I will call him for now) is alive is because of the book

I take the book and open it the shine stops suddenly then I see strange symbols and I can understand them surprisingly the name of the book is "E**********" I try to say it in my head but can't I wonder why it has information on the first page about what this book is it says "if you are reading this book that means you are the only hope for the coming catastrophe you have been chosen to be a rune god your job is to bring peace to the world if you can this book contains all the runes I have been able to aquire from the begining of time there are 9 tiers of runes for higher tier runes to work you have to reach a certain milestone to be able to use each tier everyone is able to carve tier 1 runes they have to have talent you will be given top tier talent second only to me your the universes last hope" I sigh and say to myself "who is this person I would love to meet them but I accept this responsibility who ever you are" and as I say that my body shines and my mind feels clearer it must be the talent they talked about I look at the first page it explains that each rune has 7 grades trash basic uncommon rare epic legendary and godly and the type of rune follows the same way so a max tier 1 rune can be godly type godly grade the first one is type and second one is grade godly runes are runes that surpass the limit of what it should be able to do like you take a rune for creating fire and when at godly tier it can burn souls or through time and space and cant be put out through just about any means like a eternal flame

I shut the book and look outside because the nuke alarm was gone I see partial skeletons and the city destroyed I think the book protected this room so I didnt get killed earlier I look through the book for a rune to stop radiation I see a rune called #69Rad it has the power of absorbing radiation from the person or object you applied it to I don't have carving tools with me but I have knives I also dont have anything to carve it on except myself my clothes are to thin and I dont have any accessories because I was too poor my sickness also seemed to be healed which was good news I take the knife tie my leg to stop it from getting too bloody I'm carving it right above my right knee cap I have the book in one hand and the knife in the other and start carving my hands kept steady thanks to years working as a nurse and the rune talent

I finish carving the rune it hurt bad but it seems to be uncommon grade which was I think was good for my first time and the situation the rune info says a uncommon #69Rad rune can absorb all radiation from the person or object and a 1 foot radius of the body or object it was carved on so I can eat food hopefully and scavenge materials to make more runes I also have to make sure to have a base to stay so I carve a rune on each of the walls and doors my apartment didnt have windows every rune exept the one I carved onto the door was basic the door rune was uncommon so I imagine it wipes all radiation of the things that come in which was a good thing

I get ready to go out I live in a apartment complex right across from a mall that I swear had everything from cloths to food to a military shop I think I saw their so I decided to go their first I step out of the door the rune starts glowing because of first time use it hurts a little but it is keeping me safe I start heading over there as I'm walking I see a lifeless street no living being in sight just skeletons I dont know why but I feel excited and sad excited that I feel a adventure coming something I always wanted to do and sad that so many people lost their lives I didn't care for them but they were still human and just trying to get by the streets feel so empty

I make it to the mall and go the military store first to get storage and things I can carve runes with I have the book with me in case I have to carve runes to help on the go I get a backpack and military knife the backpack needs more space so I look in the book for a space expansion rune tier 1 it is called #5Ex it is a rare rune I need this rune because im not going to be carrying a bunch of back packs around it says it expands the size of the container by 5 times its only down side is that it can't be pierced or it breaks and it cant hold life and it only take half of the items weight away so I start carving but it ends up in a trash grade luckily I have a lot of backpacks to try it out on a trash grade rune is a rune that doesn't do it intended purpose like for this rune it make the space smaller

after 5 tries I finally got a basic #5Ex rune I start gathering stuff I need from here I calculated that I only have enough space for raiding this place and the food store I grab some guns pistols and one shotgun then a bunch of ammo I then head over to the food store everything that wasn't canned food was too radiated to take I also got some water if I eat a can a day with 2 water bottles a day it should last me about 4 months I also grab seeds for experiments I start going back but hear rustling in the store I take out my shotgun load it and carefully walk over to the sound it seems to be around the corner I turn the corner and I see a big husky one that is bigger than normal it sees me and starts waving its tail it barks at me playfully I lower my guard I say to it "well arent you the lucky one to survive this come on I'll take you to my house I'll name you Jack" Jack seems to like that name and rubs up against me we get ready to go home
