The footsteps echoed through the dark hallway. The floor creaked with each step. The only light source was from the flashlight that John had. It flickers every few seconds, putting everyone on edge. John looks back for a second to make sure everyone is still there.

"Look forward, please." Kat's voice broke with fear, "Let's just do a check to see if everyone is still here. Clover?"

"Here!" Clover tried to hide his fear.

"Dave!" Kat yelled.

"Here! Lower your voice." Dave snapped, "We don't know what is here with us."

"Sorry, Ken are you here?" Kat responded

"Yeah and so is Alice." Ken said softly

"Good everyone is here." Kat said with joy

"You forgot to say my name." said John

"I know you are here because you are holding the fearful flashlight." Kat said while looking down.

The walls of the hallway were covered with dust and every corner where it was possible a spider web was sure to be found. The mystery to be solved is if this place is haunted. The hallway is the strangest part of this mansion. The hallway had many doors and luckily for them they were locked.

"That door looks different," said Clover as he stood in front of the door which seemed to be made of steel. There was only a rusted bolt keeping it shut. Clover put his hand on the old metal door, "It's freezing."

"This hallway is around 55 degrees." Kat passed the thermometer over to Clover.

"Should we try to open it?" asked Ken.

"Ha!" John remarked, "Let's just keep moving."

"No, we should check it out." Alice said peacefully.

"She's right." Clover said, "I'll pry it open."

The metal door refused to be open regardless of its age and the amount of rust on it. Clover took a step back and let out a sigh. They continued to walk down the never ending hallway. A chill rushed past everyone making them halt in their place. Clover slowly turned around and fear filled his body when he saw the metal door wide open.

"What's wrong Clo-" Kat immediately noticed the door and froze. She quickly grabbed Clover's arm and never took her eyes off the door.

"That's...strange." Ken said, puzzled.

"We...we have to go in, right?" asked Alice.

"No-oo… we... d-on't ha-ve to…" John's voice broke and gave out.

"We do." Ken said, taking the flashlight from John's hand, "I'll go first."

Ken slowly walked to the metal door. Each of them followed in a line behind him. Ken, John, Alice, Kat, Clover, and Dave. Ken was a foot away from the metal door and before he got the chance to peek inside, the door slammed.

"AAAHHHH!" Dave screamed his lungs out and ran deeper into the hallway.

"Wait! Dave!" Clover yelled. Clover turned to Ken and said, "I'll go after him."

"No, we will go after him." Ken said, reassuring him.

"Ok, let's go." Kat and Alice said.

They began to run further into the hallway. They suddenly stopped when they noticed another metal door. This metal door was different from the last. This metal looked new and not even a scratch was visible on the surface. Rust was also nowhere to be found. Clover placed his hand on the door.

"Still cold as the one before." Clover said, "Should I try to open the door?"

"Yeah, try it." Ken said, "If you can open it, maybe Dave went inside."

"It's worth a try." Kat said, smiling at Clover.

Clover tried to pull the latch open. After a few tries the door finally opened. A cold breeze ran past them. Ken handed the flashlight to Clover. Clover shined the flashlight inside. It was another hallway. This hallway looked nicer and cleaner. The wall paper had a different design.

"Look at the walls!" Ken pointed at the walls. The walls were covered in claw marks. A strange noise was coming from deep within the hallway, "Dave! Are you down there!"

"Quiet Ken!" Clover snapped, "Can't you hear that! Look! The claw marks! This door is meant to keep something in!"

"What if Dave ran down here?" Alice shouted.

"The door was shut. If he went inside it would have been unlocked." Clover pointed out.

"Look..the back of...the door." Kat shivered in fear as she pointed to the door. The back of the door was covered from top to bottom with claw marks.

Something was making a ruckus as it made its way down towards the door. The hallway was pitch black and the flashlight couldn't puncture through the dark. The noise got louder and louder. The stomping got faster and faster. Part of the noise was this beast scratching the walls on its way.

"GET OUT! GET OUT!," Clover yelled and pulled Kat out. The others fled and helped shut the door and lock it.

"What...was...that!?!" exclaimed Ken.

After the cold metal door was sealed, they felt a thump from the other side. After a few seconds, there was another thump. Another. Another. And another. For five minutes straight they stood in front of the door frozen in fear. Each thump made the flashlight flicker. The metal door never budged. Soon enough the thumping stopped. Kat leaned against the door.

"I don't hear any- AAHH." Kat screamed and fell to the ground. The monster shoved against the door once more.

"Let's find Dave and get out," said Clover, helping Kat up, "That thing is trapped inside."

"Yeah, yeah you're right." said Ken.

Clover led the way further into the hallway. The flashlight's flickers happen more often as it begins to die. The hallway gets colder every time they pass a metal door. Each door looks slightly different than the last. All of the doors are metal, except for the normal house doors which remain to be locked.

"No sign of him yet." said Clover, "Why are all of these doors locked?"

"Perhaps for the same reason," said Alice.

"No, I don't think so," said Ken, "If it was then most if not all of the doors would be broken."

"Just keep trying all of them until we find one we can open," said Kat.

"Look! Dave's shoe!" said Alice while pointing to the ground, "We are close, I can feel it!"

The hallway begins to shake as if something were running on all of the walls like a mad man. The light begins to dim darker and flicker more. A light shines through the wall in front of them. A dark silhouette fills the lightened void. It appears to be a window. The dark silhouette moves once they get closer. The shaking stops.

"A window! We haven't seen one yet!" cheered Alice, "Maybe Dave jumped out of the window."

"It's only like a foot drop," said Ken.

"No, he didn't. The snow hasn't been disrupted." said Clover.

"Yeah, he's right. Dave must be further in." Kat agreed.

"Maybe we should get out? Get some help?" Ken recommended

"Yeah. That's a good idea. Kat and I will stay inside and look for Dave. You and Alice should leave and get some help." said Clover

"OK. We will go back to the cars then. Good luck." said Ken

Good luck. Be quick!" snapped Kat.

"Yes ma'am!" saluted Ken and Alice.

Ken walks over to the window and tries to open it. The window is bolted shut. Ken hits the window with his elbow a few times. Nothing. The window is a triple pane glass window. Only a pistol could even scratch the surface.

"Uh...nevermind?" Ken said while wrapping his head around the situation.

"Where are we again?" asked Kat.

"The oldest orphanage in Oregon." replied Ken

"Why?" asked Kat.

"Because someone wanted to see a ghost." Ken said, directing his eyes at Alice.

"Hey!" Alice shouted, "We all wanted to!"

"She's right." Clover said, "We just have to keep mo-"

A scream cuts him off. They all look at each other and then they turn towards the hallway. Another scream is let out. The footsteps are getting louder. The screams are getting louder. Clover points the dying flashlight into the direction of the screams. A figure moves in the shadows.

"AAAHHH!!!! I'M LOST!!!!!! SOMEONE HELP!!!" Dave shouts from the top of his lungs.

"Dave! It's us!" Ken yells down the hall.

"RUUUUN! RUUUUUUN!" Dave continues to yell, "WE HAVE TO LEAVE! NOW!"

Clover grabs Dave as he runs past him and holds him down on the floor. Dave takes a minute to calm down. Dave stands up and points down the hall. He points to another window in front of them further down the hallway. There is a dark silhouette of a tall slender man in the light shining through the window. The hallway begins to shake as if something were running on all of the walls like a mad man. The light begins to dim darker and flicker more. The man holds out his arms and says, "It's bedtime my children. Go back to sleep. Why aren't you in your rooms?"
