Chapter 45: The Battle of Sloane

The tall, slender vampire ran his one hand through his blond hair as he lifted the flask to look at its contents.

“So this is what mortality looks like?” Sloane dropped his icy gaze to meet Arras '. “Why quit now, Arras Boddiccius Mordhas? Is vampire life not going well for you?”

Rhea felt her heart drop and cast a quick look at Arras. He stood emotionless and still.

“Sloane, why are you here?” Arras asked, his eyes on the cure.

With a voice as smooth as silk, Sloane replied, “Why, Mordhas, surely you remember. The last time I was here, we had a little…argument. We have a score to settle…”

The blond vampire smiled as he spotted Rhea standing near the fireplace, “Ah…and maybe other things under this full moon.”

Aedan and Brennus hissed, their fangs showing.

“She’s under Arras’ protection,” Brennus growled.

Sloane shrugged, “We shall see, it’s almost the full moon after all.”

Outside, Faelen’s sudden ferocious barking could be heard.
