[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

The Hole in the Sky

Metas hesitated before he went towards the crater any further. He had to wait for Myranda. He skid as he stopped mid-run to turn around and fight the crowd to see if he could spot his wife.

Through the waves of wolves his eyes searched frantically. As his chest heaved and his nostrils flared, Metas tried not to let worry flood his heart. A deep ache started to grow from the fear, and he even had to nod off a few souls who stopped to make sure he was okay.

It felt like an eternity as his golden eyes scanned coat after coat, and eye after eye. Where could she be? She wasn't hurt, he couldn't feel any injuries - or even fear. He felt her excitement - which would have normally calmed him down, but with time nearly out, his heart was ready to burst through his throat.

.....but to his relief - there she was, weaving and bobbing through the flowing river of bodies like some goddamned fish. In instinct, his mouth opened and a wide 'smile' overtook his face as he began to pant at the prospect of finally ending this war with the female he had longed for.

He retreated from the archway into the crater so he could meet up with her faster, and once they were side by side, he looked to her with determination and strength.

They had no idea what Harbinger had just done, but the collected screams of others, as well as a bright light, and a loud, terrifying howl gave them a basic idea of how it was going.

As the flow of bodies retreated, Metas and Myranda pushed forward.

The source of the bright light and the loud call into the air was horrifying.

A giant, glowing white wolf with green and blue eyes was lit up in an array of shifting colors that looked like those that happened when oil and water mixed. There was some kind of surge of energy that was leaving the wide, open maw of the huge, ethereal creature and escaping out the atmosphere.

They were somehow deflecting that massive amount of energy out and upwards into the voids of space.

Their counterparts looked as though they were in deep pain as the expression the leviathan-like stature of the white beast began to grow, and leaked black tears from their eyes.

There was no need to say anything. They knew they had to forget the previous night's failures and focus on their shared feeling of not just being in love with one another - but also the shared desire to save Ajax and Lara.

Harbinger was clearly not happy - even with his back turned to the duo as they approached from behind him.

Metas and Myranda did not have time to stop and put their foreheads together. Instead, they tucked in close together as they ran.

It was like magic as the spark of their shared souls melded together and once more, the dark wolf filled with stars and deep spacial skies was born. The eight paws that had once been running in unison seemed to float from the ground as the two bodies they belonged to faded up into the celestial beast as though it had gobbled them up.

To see Harbinger's face filled with terror, rage, and disappointment was far more rewarding that it should have been in the moment.

It was an instinct - a guess if you would - but somehow the Alpha and Luna knew that the only thing that would save their loved ones was to join the feast of energy they could barely control.

Once the wolf of night grew larger, and came into view of their sunny counterpart - it was as though Lara and Ajax were revived.

That pained look slowly turned to one of joy and pride as the two halves came near one another, and touched their front paws together to make a connection, and soon the output doubled - and the entire sky shifted.

As much of a beautiful sight as it was to behold, almost everyone looked away from the white beam of death leaving their mountain. Those who didn't would be blinded or severely impaired.

Both of their combined howls rang in a beautiful harmony that turned the terrifying sounds into a fantastic duet.

Everything was perfect. Everything except the fact that no one could watch as Harbinger burned away from inside of the night beast as he shared in the pool of energy until his body erupted into a fine pink mist as though someone had put him in the world's most powerful microwave.

His screams bled into their song as his flesh warped and melted. His eyeballs leaked down his face as the dissolved skin exposed his bones and sockets. Then the screaming stopped as the monster was consumed by the bright light and the night sky.

No monologue. No speech. No stupid waste of time or argument - just a severely painful death for old Harbinger.

Nothing of value was lost.

Everything was absolutely silent now. No howls or screams - not even breathing or the wind blowing. It was as though time had stopped for the Lycan kingdom. No one moved or opened their eyes - for they were too terrified to do so.

From far away, even at the coastline the rest of the world who happened to be outside saw the massive light erupt from within the mountain's crater and watch as the entire sky turned half day and half night - separated by the very beam that parted the clouds and shimmered like a gorgeous light display.

It lasted for maybe a minute - and then it faded entirely, which returned the sky to its normal hue of orange in the setting sun. The scent of ozone was extensive and permeated far after the beam of energy faded.

The hole in the clouds where the light had passed through was still sharp and defined, and it looked like something out of a dream as it suspended there in its 'opposite halo'.

Thank you for reading! :D

....and now to wrap up the rest of our "tail" in the coming chapters!
