War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Veltar wasn't typically a violent type. He enjoyed a peaceful cup of tea, a book, and when she was once there, Syrana at his side. He loved nothing more than to read to her and sip her homemade tea and cuddle under a blanket in his house.

It was all he could do to keep her safe from the two parents who didn't deserve her as a daughter. He was glad they were dead. He wanted to make Silas the same when he was given the permission to do so.

Today, Veltar was an angry, violent male who was taking out all the retribution he had held for decades.

"You fucking asshole! I'm going to kill you. I'm going to keep you as a pet and poison you slowly only to heal you, and start all over again. You will never live another day painless. What you did to Syrana, I will do to you ten fold. Why did you kill her? Why?" The alchemist asked with agony in his chest as he spoke the words with broken sounds and breath.

Even hitting him across the face again didn't feel better anymore. Silas was nothing more than a beaten little pulp, and he didn't feel any better. He still missed Syrana. He still held contempt for the man who locked him away for decades. He was still empty and lost precious time in that cell.

"I would have treated her right. I loved her, I truly honestly loved her - and you took her away from me," Veltar cried out with rage and put his hands on Silas' shoulders to shake him back awake, but it seemed the wolf had graciously been able to slip into unconsciousness.

That wouldn't do. He'd have to give the slime a break to heal so he could hurt him some more. There would never come a day where Veltar did not hold deep contempt for Silas - and if Metas truly did allow him to, he'd keep the bastard locked up tight for the rest of his days.

The Alpha was unpredictable in his decisions, though. Sometimes he was far more merciful than he should have been in his opinion. If he wasn't going to be able to torture him, he wanted to at least be the cause of his death.

Jyriah popped his head in finally, wondering if it was his turn to "talk" to Silas. "You uh... you okay in here?"

"Yep." Veltar answered shortly.

"He looks pretty roughed up. Feel better?" Jyriah asked and leaned against the frame of wood they had built around the tunnel to keep it stable.

"Nope." He returned back to the red head and crossed his arms.

"Yeah... it never does make it feel better - well - not yet. We're still grieving for her, and until we get over it - our hearts will be sore for a long time. I hope we can eventually start to heal to were making the rest of his days miserable becomes fun again," Jyriah returned with a grin.

"How are you taking this so well?" Veltar asked with more of an accusing tone than he meant to use.

"Oh me? I'm not. At all." Jyriah replied with a bright smile and a laugh. "I just hide it better. Between Syrana's death, Mandy's brush with it, and that fucking net-web thing some sick sadistic kid put me in, I'm a terrible wreck. I'm lucky I have Joss..." he kind of let his words trail off as he remembered Joss' odd behavior around the handsome male before him.

"You are. He's a great guy," Veltar replied meaning it as a compliment, but Jyriah did not take it that way.

"More than you'll ever know. It should probably stay that way, too..." the older wolf hinted and darted his eyes at Veltar's back with a little bit of suspicion.

"What...why? What's wrong with me and Joss getting along? I thought you'd be pleased...I mean, I really want to be back in your life. We were best friends once. Don't tell me that's over because I have an attraction to another?" Veltar thought maybe Jyriah had finally found out, and he was so relieved.

"So you admit it? Seriously?" Jyriah snapped and made a sound of disgust. "You're something else, asshole."

"What the fuck? I'm not allowed to be attracted to someone else!? My bond with Syrana was severed a long time ago. Just because you happen to have a mate, doesn't mean no one else can! You're being a little unfair," Veltar argued and turned around to snarl at the hot-headed male.

"I'm being unfair? You know you're chasing down a dangerous path, right!? Does Joss know about how you feel? He's okay with this too?" Jyriah asked with a dangerous voice.

"...Uhh...yeah..? He told me he was going to tell you about it when the timing was right. He still hasn't? Really?" Veltar replied with annoyance at Joss' flakiness, and Jyriah's horrible response to his feelings for Jessie.

"He was going to tell me? Really? Him? Not you?" Jyriah's voice rose in anger and in pitch as he only got angrier as the conversation continued.

"Why would it be me? It's Joss' relationship with you, not mine. I wanted to stay out of it, and so did Jessie - but Joss was so worried about how you'd take it, it seems he's still sitting on his hands. At least it's out now. I can finally sleep better at night...and I'd really like to get to know my mate..." Veltar said innocently enough.

"Fuck you! You're seeing someone already taken! Was my sister not enough for you? I didn't realize how scummy you were..." Jyriah was absolutely disgusted and wanted to punch the male in the face -- but he was healing his sister - and he was the only resident doctor of any kind. Should Jyriah hurt him, they'd all be pretty screwed.

"You know what? You're lucky you are useful, otherwise I'd slay you as you stand. If you two want to run off together, go ahead - but never ever fucking look into my eyes again."

"What? You really are taking this badly. I should have listened to Joss, and now I feel bad- but only a little. It's none of your business who I am interested in and why. It's not my fault Syrana and I were parted. Why are you so mad about a natural state of life? Did anyone stop you two from being together? I'm pretty sure no one did -but here you are telling me what to do? Fuck you, Jyriah!" Veltar belted out and approached his once friend with hostile body language.

"WOW you've got some nerve on you, you little prick. You can't just run off with anyone you want. Did you consider my feelings other than how I would react? How about how this would break my heart, or destroy me? You're both selfish fucks, and you can both enjoy being happy and in love and all that other shit. I'll never forgive you for this, Veltar. Ever." Jyriah snarled and turned around to deny the Alchemist anymore of his time, or his eyes.

For Veltar to be in love with his own Joss - his mate - his love - was unforgivable.

Veltar on the other hand, was enraged that Jyriah would be so pissed off about him having feelings for Jessie. Why did that asshat care so much? Did he see her as his new sister?

Regardless of what the other believed, neither had the truth of the matter, and it was going to destroy the bridge between them in a blazing fire to burn out of control.
