The Mountain of the Alpha King

[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Divine Blood

Metas looked through the thick trees and saw various visions of a whole bunch of different couples. Somehow, they felt very familiar, but he didn't say anything. He had been walking with Lilith for what felt like a very long time, and his feet were becoming heavy.

"We're almost to the fountain, little one. How are you feeling?" the goddess of stars asked with a scholarly-like curiosity.

"Worried. If Myranda has already woken up and has seen the state of her sister, she may be resentful of me. I promised I'd keep her safe, too. I feel as responsible for Syrana as I do for Mandy..." he admitted with a shattered sigh as his lungs stretched and strained with use.

"Syrana has her own mate to care for her. You always take on too much responsibility - even now. I worry for you, Metas. I feel as though there is another soul absolutely perfect for you. One better than Myranda. It's been five thousand years, and we're still having the same conversation. Why not learn something new?" Lilith asked and looked at him like a doting, but overbearing mother.

"Why? I don't want that. Why do you ask so much?" he asked as she started to aggravate him a little.

"I love you, my little pup - that's why. You mean a lot to me, and your happiness is paramount. Growing would be a bonus, but happiness is my main goal for you. She puts so much strain on your soul. How about a more nurturing soul who will warm you instead of leave you so alone with so much weight? One who will help you with your burdens instead of adding onto them..."

"She didn't do anything like that, Lilith. The things she had to endure before meeting me formed her opinion into the way it did. I can't hold that against her. Since she's been with me, I've felt whole and strong. She is the very fire I crave. Please, I ask you respectfully my Goddess, don't try to sway me again," Metas said firmly.

Lilith chuckled with amusement and nodded, "as you wish, little sun spot."

Metas' anger started to settle the longer they walked, and soon he saw the thick trees start to thin and separate so that he could see a fountain come into view where he saw what seemed to be an exact opposite of Lilith's body, with skin of night black, and clothing of moon white.

"Ah, there is Ophelia. My better half," Lilith said with a smile.

Metas didn't care about anything she had to say - but it wasn't out of disrespect. He was merely focused on looking for Myranda. Somehow his feet became lighter which pushed him into a fast run in hopes it would bring her into focus quicker.

Lilith smiled a little as she watched Metas jet off into the distance. She stopped her walk to watch him finally reunite with the female wolf he loved so very much. While she herself didn't approve of their match - as she had said before, his happiness was what meant most to her.

When Myranda and Metas finally did meet, he picked her up and spun her around with joy, and squeezed her tightly to him so that she couldn't fly away.

"My love, my mate, my Luna..." he cried happily into her very soul and showered her face with kisses.

"Metas! My Alpha, my soul, my strength. I feel as though I am whole again. Thank you for coming back for me," Myranda sobbed and tightened her hold around him.

"Leaving you behind is not something I want to do ever again. Will you go back with me? Even if we die, will you still fight by my side?" Metas asked with urgency.

"I'd never let you fight alone. As long as I am with you - you will do nothing alone. Let's go back and finish what you started," Myranda said with a sing-song to her words as though they were going back to paradise.

"I love you eternally," Metas whispered into her ear and felt a lovely heat radiate around him. Not like fire - but a sunny day where his coat could soak up the rays of the sun to keep him warm.

"and my love for you is eternal," Myranda repeated back to him and smiled as she felt as though a nice warm pastry were enveloping her like a cozy blanket.

Just as she had come, Myranda was finding herself lost in a blinding white light that faded into a dream.

Ophelia and Lilith joined hands and watched as the light of their spirits meld together and fade away into mortality once more.

"Did you pester him about leaving her again?" Ophelia asked with a hint of knowing in her tone.

"..A little.. he may have gotten upset with me," Lilith replied truthfully and squeezed Ophelia's hand.

"He does every time. Let it be. He's chosen his soulmate. Accept it - and trust our son's judgement. One day, he will take our place with Myranda at his side. In this, I am most confident" Ophelia answered with a trill to her voice.

Lilith just smiled and leaned into Ophelia's shoulder as they watched the world glitter below them like a ball of shattered glass as all the souls who resided there flowed with magic and life.

I wasn't sure if anyone wanted to read more memories or flashes of Metas and Myranda's past lives - so I took it out of this chapter.

I wrote the entire thing and was just like, 'nah'. If anyone would like to read little flashes of their lives through Metas' POV, let me know. It's saved :).

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed the tiny twist here. As Metas said in the beginning, he was a descendant of the 'Firsts'... but who exactly were the 'Firsts' and where did they go? Lots of questions will be answered in the future in stories from characters related to this world.

Have a fantastic day, you beautiful amazing person, you! I send hugs in your direction, and hope they fuel your day with goodness!
