[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

A Deeper Solution [mini chapter]

Jhinto didn't look angry, displeased, or even disappointed at the royal couple as they stopped to take another break. They had become so hot and sweaty, that they shed their wolf skins and dressed down to their nude forms.

Myranda and Metas were so very upset with themselves, though. Try after try, they still could not combine their souls enough to become what they needed to be.

"You are doing a fine job, my Alpha and Luna," the old mage mused out with truth, even if his two pupils did not feel the same.

"How so?" Metas asked with annoyance.

"We haven't made progress..." Myranda added sullenly.

"Oh, but you have. It is perplexing to me how you couldn't feel the same. You have known one another for barely a year, and you can connect on a base level. I think what we need to do, is give you each a glimpse into the past of the other. Think of it as hearing a thousand stories in a small amount of time." The advisor encouraged them with a kind smile and he turned to his satchel of goods and pulled out a few vials, ingredients, and what looked like a weathered book.

The royal pair watched with curiosity, and an intense interest in what the old male was doing. It was nothing like they had seen before. His old fingers dragged into the dirt before him and made various signs and runes.

He looked at the vials with clear eyes that seemed to just /know/ how much was needed and what was in each glass despite them not being labeled. Transfixed, the couldn't help but wonder how he was going to make tea with no water, and boil things without fire.

Their answer came quickly as he put his hands to the runes he just made and delicately move his fingers and wrists to pull water from the ground, and conjure a little spot of fire. After mixing the water with the many many things he poured into it, Jhinto set it on the little ring of fire and hummed contently as the colors in the glass changed and glowed. It shifted from red to purple rather quickly, and as soon as it just started to boil, he removed the glass from the fire, extinguished the flames, and looked up the two students patiently.

"Now, I must draw two circles around each of you, and connect you with the use of your blood, my Alpha, if that is alright with you," the mage looked to his King's gold eyes for approval.

"Certainly. Whatever is needed, you may have," Metas replied quickly. If he couldn't do what was needed, he should as least be as helpful as possible, because he was feeling very useless right now.

Jhinto nodded in respect and then took Metas' outstretched hand and used his very sharp, very long nails to prick his finger and allowed a few drops of blood to flow onto the sign he had created, and then followed up with pouring the potion he had just made into the crevices of the etching.

Instead of disturbing the pattern on the delicate surface, the liquid surged through the indentations like liquid metal that started to glow gold the further it traveled along the pattern. Once both of the circles were filled, Jhinto spoke delicately.

"Reach across and hold one another's hands."

No other questions were needed for that instruction, and once their fingers were entirely laced into the others, the entire room around them went black.

I apologize for being gone. I couldn't afford my medication, and things did not go well.

I'm doing better since I was able to finally fill it.

Thank you for understanding! <3

The next chapter will be extra long, as this was just the set-up. It SHOULD come out immediately after this!
