30. The Prison

3.11.20

Kody's POV

We arrived at a completely different institution than last time, and I was fearful of it. The stone building stretched higher than I could see based on the current position of my head, and I closed my eyes tightly from the intimidating height. The sun got out from the other side of the car before walking around the front of the hood. He picked my disabled body from the seat and carried me into the building. I was put into a dirty, damp cell that branched off from what I assumed was his bedroom.

"Better get comfortable, you're going to be here for a while," he taunted before walking out.

I closed my eyes briefly to try and get some sleep before he noticed, but before I could get any sleep, a sharp buzzing came from the bracelet he had fastened around my wrist. I tried to ignore it, but the longer I laid here the more intense the stinging was. It only ended when I opened my eyes, so I knew that its purpose was to not let me fall asleep.

My body was super sore, and I was hungrier than I had been even on the streets. It was made worst by the thirst that made me throat so dry that I could hardly breathe. This was going to be harder than I thought.

James's POV (2 days later)

We arrived at the guardian's base in Mexico, but when we raided it, no one was there. I kicked my foot roughly into the nearest item of furniture, a small coffee table, while shouting a sharp profanity.

"I... I don't know where else he could be," Mason murmured sadly.

I rammed my head against the wall hard enough to make a dent in the dry wall. Mason pulled me away from the edge of the room so that I couldn't hurt myself any more. "Mason... He could be hurt or something! He could be dead! I can't live without him, I just can't!" I cried while pulling at my hair. The tears were flowing freely down my face, and Mason pulled me into his embrace like I was his child.

"I know... I know how much it hurts, James. Kody's all that I have left. I lost my wife so long ago, and my son was all that I have left to remember her. I don't want you to go through anything like that. Losing everything is worse than death. It's the worst form of torture, James. It's like holding someone captive in the darkest prison and keeping them separate from society for years; it breaks them down more than anyone thinks possible."

"That's it! Prisons! Do you know any high profile prisons in the sun's territory?"

"The highest is Garrison, but it's also the sun's living quarters. No one knows where it is, and anyone who's gotten close to it hasn't come back."

"I think... I think that's where he is," I mumbled. It sounded intimidating just hearing the description of this place, but I had a feeling that was where Kody is.

"If it is... We're going to need to give Koda to someone. There's a high chance of death, and your son needs to live."

"Where is this prison?"

"Way North. That's all I know."

"So we'll be passing through Carbuos. I'll leave him there," I decided.

We got back into the car and drove away. I hope that no one dies while we travel there.

5 days later (a week after kidnapping)

We were driving aimlessly around in the northern regions when a solid stone building rose up in the distance.

"If that doesn't look like a prison then I don't know what does," I muttered.

"James, this is where it gets dangerous. If I die and you live, tell my son that I love him," Mason concluded before driving right through the front gate. Our car was immediately surrounded by a lot of people, and I was glad that we left little Koda at the castle.

"Get out of the car!" A feminine voice shouted, and Mason nodded at me. We got out of the car immediately at gunpoint, and I got nervous all over again. No running away now; I need to face my issues head on for the good of my boyfriend. "To what do we owe the pleasure, Mason Lamark?" The voice belonged to a tall, blonde haired girl in all black. I thought it was ironic for the sun's guards to be dressed darkly, but that was just me trying to distract myself from the danger in front of my face.

"Give me my son," he demanded not intimidated by the mystery of the situation in the slightest.

"Actually... I think we'll just kill this one. James Harmish, is it?" the woman resolved before aiming a small pistol at me.

I closed my eyes tightly while waiting for the inevitable pain that would come from being shot. There was a loud sound that came from the gun, but there wasn't any pain. I opened my eyes to see Mason laying on the ground in front of me. Blood was littered around his body, and it was obvious that he had just died for me.

"M-Mason," I stuttered while falling to the ground. "You've come so far! Y-you have to live!" I cried.

"Tell Kody that I'm sorry and I love him," he murmured before his eyes rolled back in his head. He's with his wife now forever and hopefully not with Kody.

"Get the boy. We'll ask Nick what to do with him."

Arms tried to grab me, but I thrashed hard. I couldn't be taken! I need to save Kody. Suddenly, a hard rock hit the back of my head, and my world went sideways. My muscles grew weak from the hit, and the people managed to close a ziptie around my wrists.

"Nick says to bring him to the room, we're going to do what we planned for tomorrow early," the woman demanded. I was dragged through the maze hallways until I reached a large room.

I was tied tightly to a chair that was linked to the ground so that I couldn't move. I knew why when Kody was dragged into the room. He was clearly alive based on his moving eyes, but it seemed that they were the only things that he could shift.

He looked at me sadly through his peripherals, and I surged forward against the rope. It didn't even give a little bit, and I knew that neither of us could do anything.

"Kodes... I love you," I cooed quietly. "Your father... He did too."

Kody definitely picked up on my past tense because he teared up. I smiled softly to try and reassure him, but it only seemed to make it worse. We both knew that I was about to watch him get destroyed, so it was hard for either of us to have a whole bunch of hope.

"Koda's safe in Carbuos. I don't want him to be parentless, but I can't live without you." I got a serious look that I knew meant that I needed to keep on living no matter what, but I just couldn't.

The door opened, and the guardian walked into the room. "It's time, boys. Kiss your little boy toy away, James," he muttered darkly.
