FLINTHEART'S DAY

***

*Flintheart's pov*

***

"Max? MAX!" I screamed in fear when I saw the kid almost pass out on the ground. I quickly caught him just before, but that doesn't fix the fact that something's wrong.

"I don't feel so good," Max said, then immediately started seizuring.

"MY GODS! Mrs Kelly, I know you're there! Go and call someone in from the med team!"

The door slightly opened and the principal peaked through. "I didn't mean to pry or anything–wait what's wrong with the kid?"

"I have no idea! Just go and call the healers NOW!"

"Yes, of course, of course. But is the shouting really–"

"KELLY!"

"Sorry, sorry,"

Two minutes later, Mrs Kelly was back with two people from the med team, a young girl and the head healer. While I was waiting for them to arrive, I had tried loosening Max's clothes up, hoping that his foaming mouth and white eyes weren't a sign that he was dying. At least he'd calmed down a bit, but that was just about the only good news so far. I gently placed him on the ground for them to easily observe him.

"What's the situation?" the head healer asked as she kneeled down right next to me together with the girl.

"I was just talking with him a little bit, then, when he was just about to tell me some serious information, this happened,"

"Oh, I see. Alright then. I think I have a good picture of what happened here. Luiz, please tell me what's wrong," the head healer asked, turning to the girl.

The girl, earlier when she entered here, looked scared out of her wits when she saw Max, but now she was composed, though there was still some fear in her.

She gently placed her right hand on Max's head, nodded like she found something, then checked his eyes and temperature by placing her two fingers on his neck.

"Temperature normal, dilation of his eyes is a problem, but probably due to fatigue. Generally, Max shouldn't have had a seizure given his age, but that's where the foam comes from. He's mind has been blocked by something,"

"Blocked? What do you mean blocked?!"

The girl completely ignored me and turned to her teacher, "We don't have a lot of time. If we don't do it here, we're gonna lose him for good!"

"That's ninety percent accurate, Luiz. I see your studying has paid off. But you're wrong about something, it's not just his mind that is blocked, but also his brain. And he's not in that much of danger,"

"Now hold on! Somebody talk to me! What's blocking his brain? Why is he in danger?!"

"Mrs Kelly, we need privacy to deal with this. Please take the South teacher out of here,"

"Come on, Mr Flintheart. We still have half an event left to watch,"

"No! I'm not leaving my kid, not this time!"

"I'm sorry, Flintheart. This wasn't up for debate,"

Mrs Kelly gently but firmly grasped my hand. She then pulled me up and moved towards the door. I found myself complying, even after all that talk about not leaving Max. It's then that I realized that it was probably for the best that I was taken out. And also, mainly, it was because I knew that if I resisted the principal, I'd get to experience first hand just how strong a half–dragon is.

"OK, OK. We're already out so you can let go of me now," I said as I unsuccessfully tried to free my throbbing hand.

"No, no, Mr Flintheart. You don't get to stay outside the door either. Don't forget, there's still an ongoing event," she said as she increased her strengthhold on my hand, making it hurt even more.

"Ah... Mrs Kelly? That kinda hurts,"

"What–Oh! Sorry,"

She let go at once she stopped us at near the observatory tower. I looked at her with a questioningly. She never uses that much strength just to drag someone along. Huh, I wonder...

"It wasn't just me the head healer said should leave the premises, was it? You care a lot more about the boy than you let on, Mrs Kelly,"

"Of course I care about him! I care about all my student's well being. Max is just one of the few students who've suffered the most out of all of them and has still somehow managed to keep a smile on his face. So, yeah, I'm a little more concerned about him. Now quit your yapping and watch the third round of fighting,"

"Yapping? Wait what do you mean third round?!"

"While you were busy having that chat with Max–"

"–you were listening in–"

"–two matches have already taken place before this third round. Your two students have managed to make it to the semifinals. West has been eliminated by both North and South, and North have eliminated East. So right now, It's South and East battling out, and–"

"WOOOW! Ouch! That's gotta hurt, I'm I right ladies and gentlemonsters? Just like in his previous match, the South student, Clive Dickson, keeps showing us just how excellent he is with an axe! We've seen him during the past events, only using muscle to push through them all, and now we get to see just how powerful the monster really is with weapons!" the announcer said in excitement.

"YEAAAAHHH!"The crowd screamed with enthusiasm.

Clive was shown on the screen, standing over the East student he was to fight, or more accurately, finished fighting, with a two handed axe. He looked almost uninjured, though I couldn't say the same about his opponent.

"And there you have it, monsters! The South student will advance on to face of with the North student!"

"I LOVE YOU SOUTH!"

"THAT'S MY KID DOWN THERE! GO GET'EM DICKSON!"

"Looks like there's another intervention, folks. Do you know, the head general has just confirmed that he recognized the South student to use on of his martial arts technique to take down his opponent? I don't know about you monsters, but I'd sign my kid up for those lessons. I mean, who wouldn't want their little girl to be a terror to any one person that threatens her life!"

"Huh, the view from here is quite something. Is this where you observed all the events, principal Kelly?" I asked her white appreciating the scenery.

"I guess you could say that, yes. Hold on, I'm getting a call," she said as she reached over to the receiver and quickly talked to the caller.

"Good work, Clive. I guess all that training didn't go to waste. Although your motivation was a little weird. But I'm sure one day, you'd probably be a challenge for him. But with the rate Max is growing, that maybe never. Now, who's next on list?" I wondered while turning to the computer to see who were to fight next.

"Well then ladies and gentlemonters, looks like its the young Furrha girl whose shown us she's definitely capable of great things verses the vice representative of East who is equally as good!"

"Ah, guess that's my answer. But I really thought they'd put in Emily for them to win. She is the strongest girl in the class after all, " I observed.

"They planned to, but remember Flintheart, she's still a demon. We might have gotten lucky with no one noticing her mana, but we don't want to push it too far," Mrs Kelly explained, already done with her call.

"Hmm... people wouldn't like to see a demon beating up a monster, wouldn't they?"

"That's right,"

"I see. So anyways, what do you think the young girl meant when she said his mind was blocked?"

"Flintheart... "

"I know, I know. But I just can't seem to get it out of my mind. Do you have any idea at all?"

Mrs Kelly seemed to ponder a bit before she answered, "The way I see it, I'm guessing it has to do with some type of block magic,"

"Wait... I've never heard of that kind of magic. What does it do?" I asked while turning back to the fight in the show ground that I just know realized was created in place of the previous forest. The school's clean up crew is really amazing.

"How do I say this... I think I should just give an example. Like let's say, Max. He was about to talk to you about him joining a gang. What are the chances that for him to join the gang, he had to be placed a spell to never reveal anything about it?"

I turned back to the principal in surprise, "That's possible?"

"Very much so, yes. I can tell that you haven't been out in the world in recent times, have you? These days, it's a normal occurrence to find a kid either dead or near death just because of a spell placed on him preventing him from, as they say it, 'snitching'. What's even worse is that they never know they have the spell on them, let alone the one who placed it on them,"

"That's just absurd! What if we were to tell Max about the spell? What would happen to him?"

The principal's eyes narrowed dangerously, "That is the first thing you should never do in this case. There are dire consequences, especially if the person placed the spell knows in which memory it is placed in. Some cases have even lead to death!"

"Yeah, so let's not do that then. Then how can we–" I was rudely interrupted by the announcer before I could continue.

"South are on fire today! I have no idea how she did it, but the Furrha girl managed to win her match, but not easily mind you! Rachel Leary gave her a fight she would never forget! As out victor exits the arena to get herself healed together with Rachel, let's all talk about the Furrha race!"

"BOOOO! WE WANT THE FINALISTS TO FIGHT!"

"YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT!"

"WAIT, WHERE'S OUR MAIN CHARACTER OF THE DAY??!"

"YOU TALKING ABOUT THE FURRHA KID?"

"HE'S A FURRHA??!"

"Calm down, monsters! I was just going to keep you guys occupied with a few facts I just came up with," the announcer said, trying to gain back the crowd.

"Firstly, I've been alerted that the kid will not be joining us for this last event temporarily. He too is a busy monster, as you can probably tell. But I've been assured that he will be around when the Beast king arrives, so you all have to be patient."

"The girl's final competition will be the first to commence, but back to my facts, let's start with what the hell is up in the change of hierarchy? Cause, just as you folks have seen, one of the weakest monsters to walk the beast system have all just proved to us that they are not in fact, walk overs,"

"Jeff is speaking of the truth, monsters," said the head general as he came on the screen.

"I'll have to agree with him that not a while back did I ever consider their race as worthy soilders, if even they ever made it to a good age to be one. They were the rarest among us, but also the weakest, so we really didn't consider them as monsters until a certain someone showed us just how little our opinions mattered about their race,"

Damn. Max's race is being acknowledged right now, and he's not here to witness this. Kinda feel sad for the kid, but that sadness has been easily overcome by worry about his well being.

"Today, my dear monsters, I want you to acknowledge the new rising stars in the monster kingdom, The Furrhas!"

Everyone clapped their hands in respect at the generals acknowledgement. Even I found myself clapping, even though I was a human.

One thing I respected the monsters for is how much they praise strength. The don't discriminate against what type of monster or what color or any of those things that disturb other races. They only care about how strong you are, which, maybe good at times, but not all times.

"Moving on, the Beast king has just confirmed that immediately after the last match, he will appear with the trophy for the victor class. Now, ladies and gentlemonsters, THE FINAL ROUND!"

Everyone cheered in excitement when Kira was back in the ring, to face off with a North student.

"This match will be a tough one for your student, Flintheart. I know that girl, and I know that the ice ability she has is something that even Mrs Ivory had to acknowledge as being powerful. And she never gives complements just like that,"

"Oh? Then Kira might have a lot more trouble than she bargained for, but I have faith in her," I confidently stated.

"Now, if only Max were here to watch his girlfriend fight,"

"To watch whose girlfriend fight?" a calm young voice voice asked from behind. I turned in shock and almost jumped in joy when I saw Max staring back at me, his usual frown placed on his face everytime he saw me.
