First Slay

Rem made his way through another thick set of bushes for the umpteenth time today- the morning sun was hot and even the trees could do nothing to shade them from the condescending heat.

Apparently they had waited till early morning before leaving their hide-out on the trees and now the trio was making their way through the forest, aiming to make headway in the dense path.

"I thought you said Dungeon gates appeared here," Rem said, he had been looking forward to seeing a dungeon gate- not for the purpose of raiding though.

"Yes, they do appear in the forest of death," Drew said to Rem as he held Krista at his back, giving the girl a piggy-back, "It seems like we won't see one which is lucky,"

"How is that lucky?" Rem asked and Drew sighed.

"You see as this is a dense forest, it means a gate can appear at any time in any given place… which is why there are Sensory Magus deployed to corners of the forest, once they sense a gate appearing, they send a signal which is usually a burst of magic into the sky," Drew said, "With this burst of magic, The GUILD assembles a squad to raid the dungeon,"

Rem nodded understandingly.

"But how does the GUILD know what grade the dungeon is?" Rem asked, according to his knowledge, just like how Adventurers were graded from E to S… the dungeons were graded the same way.

"I was about to get there, It all depends on the color of the signal," Drew replied, "Dungeon graded E to A have different perks on them, especially on the coloring of their gates. A B-grade dungeon has a white portal and hence if the Sensory Magus fires a white signal into the sky, it means a B-grade dungeon has appeared,"

"Okay," Rem said and then quickly he narrowed his gaze, "There are monsters nearby,"

Drew gave a small nod, wondering how Rem knew but he was interrupted by the rustling of bushes in front of them.

Rem took a makeshift combat stance, noting it was abnormal for the Monster to hold back it's attack… at any short notice, he was ready to whip out the Heaven's Crossbow and start shooting although he would have a lot of explaining to do.

And then the monster emerged, it looked human with an amazingly sculpted thin muscular body but that was where it's human-like traits ended- it's entire body was painted in a deep brown color which showed it's ferocity, there were also battle scars which were adorned on Rem's body, and it's head had tentacles similar to an Octopus.

Rem gasped slightly at the sight of the tentacles contorting as the creature's eyes, situated on its forehead landed on him. Saliva slowly dripped down the tentacles under Rem's watchful gaze, his combat stance although flawed allowed for fluid movement and Rem was sure that he would be able to dodge any attack that the Monster threw at him.

"Watch your back," Drew said and yanked on Rem's arm, drawing the boy out of harm's way- just in time as two tentacles impaled the ground spreading a small crater across.

Drew looked at Rem in the eyes.

"Did you really think there would only be one of them?" Drew asked but Rem didn't reply- he was grumbling.

'This is the second time he's saved me in this forest,' Rem thought with a grunt as he ran off into the thicket, 'There won't be a third,'

"Get back!" Drew cried out but it was too late, the first monster had run after Rem.

#####

Rem was only able to sense two complicated aura before which meant that there were only two of these tentacle monsters nearby so he made the wise choice- spreading them thin.

This was also done in case there were any other stragglers in the surrounding as they would chase after him- Rem was sure that Drew could take care of himself.

"Skree!!"

The sound of the Monster alarmed Rem yet he maintained his pace while drawing upon the power of his soul and summoning the Weapon held within- in a sizzle of green light, The Heaven's crossbow adorned with a green aura appeared on Rem's palm.

The Monster was nearing Rem but he couldn't care less about it, Rem pushed energy into his feet and sprung to the right just in time as two tentacles shot through the air and impaled the ground where he last stood.

Rem pumped magical energy into his weapon watching the glow intensify as an arrow made of magic appeared, Rem unleashed three bursts from his bow and watched them shoot through the air with purpose.

They engraved themselves within the monster's head, digging deep with their sharp pointed tips.

"I doubt it's dead," Rem said as his feet landed on the ground, he sprung back making distance between him and the Monster at once.

And as he expected, the monster regained motion and shot more tentacles in his direction… Rem could see that they were sharp and if they touched him, it would mean an instant death.

The Black haired boy gritted his teeth and felt energy bubbling within his veins, Rem moved forward and his body seemingly melded with his surroundings as he had vanished into thin air… The tentacles crashed against the ground once again sending vibrations through the makeshift arena.

'Flash movement is really helpful,' Rem thought as he appeared next to the monster, a disastrous stench overwhelming it's nostrils, 'When did it last take a bath?'

The Monster's eyes suddenly whipped around and landed on Rem, as if it had sensed his presence and the tentacles were coming back… aiming to take his head but Rem was one step ahead.

Once again, he vanished and reappeared mid-air, a few feet away from the Monster as a green aura pervaded his Crossbow.

"It's over," Rem muttered slowly as he unleashed three arrows, more powerful than the last set- they shot through the air and pierced the Monster's head.

Yet he wasn't done yet, Rem vanished yet again and slammed his foot into the Monster's chest sending it sailing toward the ground in an instant… Only then did he let out a sigh and fall on the ground.

It was dead… The Monster was dead…

[Congratulations for Slaying a D-grade Anomaly]

'Oh Yeah, this is the first time I've actually killed a monster,' Rem was reminded vaguely as he withdrew the crossbow once more into his soul.
