The Midnight Sons have travelled back through the mystic portal from K'un-L'un to the home of the Ancient One. Once they arrive, the Ancient One appeals to them: "You hold within your hands one of the most powerful and dangerously evil tomes ever written. I know that we have only just recently met, and not under the most ideal circumstances, but I hope you will believe me when I tell you that this book should not fall into the hands of the greedy, the unwise, nor the prideful. You have seen what this book is capable of firsthand. It should not be stored with the other items of power.
"Even with my diminished power, I think you recognize that I could easily sway your minds to leave the book with me. But, I will not do that. Unlike others, I leave you of your own free will to do what you believe is right. Rest assured, this book will find its way into the hands of another dark force one day. I simply would prefer at least to ensure that day is far from now."
"The Darkhold was lost to the Red Skull because of your failure to perform your duty adequately. What would you do with the Necronomicon if we were to relinquish to you?" Indiana Jones asked the Ancient One.
"I would scour the multiverse for a hidden place in a lifeless dimension to store it." The ancient One professed.
Ultimately, The Midnight Sons decided to entrust the Ancient One with the Necronomicon. The Ancient One then opens a portal that returns them to Madripoor, at the exact moment in time when they had left, allowing them to return to Sam and Peggy.

Once back with their handlers, the Midnight Sons explain where they have been and the absence of the Necronomicon which they entrusted to the Ancient One. General Sam Sawyer is visibly disturbed by the heroes' choice to give the book to the Ancient One. He presses them to tell him where the book is and insists they take him to the Ancient One to retrieve the book, saying: "An old gook in a yurt can't be trusted."
This was a delicate confrontation to be mounted, but ultimately the Midnight Sons had completed their objective in preventing the Nazis from obtaining the three artifacts of power. The conversation is sufficient in rousing Peggy's suspicions that perhaps General Sam Sawyer might not be thinking clearly.
Once the debriefing is over, Sam and Peggy bestow gratitude upon the Midnight Sons for their glorious service. Sam and Peggy announce they will be flied back to Europe by Cliff to retrieve the government lockbox of relics and deliver it safely to the states.

Having grown suspicious of Sam, Peggy figures out a way to have him tracked back to Egypt where he meets with Amahl Farouk at the Allaylat Almadia Nightclub where the adventure began. Sam has stolen the other 2 artifacts and is giving them to Amahl, whose secret identity is The Shadow King. An Omega Level Mutant with powers of psychosoterica. The Shadow King immediately senses the presence of Peggy, and uses his powers to draw her to the Astral Plane where he takes control of her mind.
He sends his goons after the escaping Cliff, whose plane is shot down.

Wolverine returns to the Pacific, where he is soon captured and held in a Japanese POW camp.

Indiana Jones returns to the states to study for a University.

Iron Fist decides to return to K'un-L'un and reclaim his mantle as it's immortal defender.
