Chapter 23

“I’m not going anywhere,” he reiterated.

Graham turned to face him, his hands full of large sodas and a couple of hot dogs, one plain and one covered in mustard and pickle relish for his dad.

“I believe you’re worth waiting for, Graham. I’m not going to push you, but you need to know I’m not giving up.” He brushed past Graham and handed the food to Frank and Thurston.

Graham shook himself out of the shock and sat next to his dad, giving him the hot dog and setting the drinks on the ground. The fact that Sam sat on the opposite side of his dad, and not next to Graham, didn’t bother him. Not at all. And he didn’t spend the first thirty minutes of the game wishing Sam was closer. Nope. Not even once.

His dad had a great time and Graham attributed a lot of that to Sam. He had a gentle way with people. It didn’t surprise Graham that Sam had chosen to be a nurse. The man had a huge heart. It was obvious in everything he did.
