Davien's P. O. V
I pulled over at the pack house at exactly nine pm, dressed in a casual dark blue shirt and a pair of jeans to match.
Outside, my Beta, Oliver, who was like the older brother I never had stood beside his motorcycle, waiting for me to arrive.
'Hurry your ass over! Most of the elders are already inside' he snapped at me through the mind link, in response, I raised my middle finger to him and hurried my steps.
"If you keep on pissing the elders off, they will certainly get back at you." Oliver chided as we walked inside, reminding me that I was on bad terms with the elders of the pack.
For being too 'promiscuous'
On entry, my eyes landed on my father, the former leader of the Night Howlers pack and current chairman of the board. Though his strands of grey hair had become more visible, his biceps never betrayed him.
"You're late." He scolded me the moment he laid eyes on me, forgetting that I had actual work to do at the company before driving to the outskirts of the city.
Even though the elders didn't say anything to my face, I could tell that they were already cursing me in their minds. Wondering just how the hell I became the alpha of the pack.
"My apologies, I was held up at the office." I quickly inserted, reminding father that while he sat on his arse all day 'minding the peace' as he called it. I spent grueling hours at the company, working late into the night.
Father made a face at my comeback but that was all, he dropped my tardiness aside and took a deep breath, ready to drop a bombshell on the pack.
"I gathered you all here today, to announce something very important, that will change things around here." He started, setting the mood for the announcement of my soon-to-happen promotion.
"As you all know, my son Davien here has worked hard over the past four years since he joined the company, and achieved several impressive feats," Father said, despite the disapproving looks on the faces of the elders.
'Wipe that smug look off your face, you're such a cheeky bastard.' Oliver scolded through the mind link, looking to pick a fight with me.
'I can't help it, once the company is mine, to celebrate I'll hold an orgy.'
'This is exactly why the elders are against you being the Alpha, dumbass!'
My wolf, Ralph seemed to be happy over the idea of an orgy celebration, he was in every way as free-spirited as I was. Which made us such the perfect fit, that I was glad to have him as my partner in life.
The more father spoke, the less I listened, after all the announcement wouldn't come until the end. Whatever he was doing currently, was just flattering and buttering up to the stuck-up elders.
"So, with a happy heart, I announce the meager between our company and Saint Inc." father announced, raising his bottle of beer over his head.
The younger wolves who stuck around for the booze eagerly raised their bottles and joined the toast. The elders all wore satisfied looks on their faces, pleased by father's decision.
A sentiment I couldn't share.
"A meager?" I echoed, killing the celebratory vibe everyone was sharing.
"Yes son, I've decided that instead of fighting with the enemy, we should ally instead. That way, we reduce the tension between our pack and theirs." Father explained, stepping on each of my nerves.
What made this situation even more insulting, was the fact that each elder was also a member of the board of our company!
I stood beside my father and whispered into his ears, "isn't this something we should have discussed first? You can't just wake up and decide to wave the white banner." I tried to talk some common sense into the man, forcing politeness.
"Oh right! Before I forget! I have one more announcement to make!" He cried out, ignoring everything I just told him.
I exchanged exasperated glances with Oliver, who knew just as well as I did, how thick-skulled my father could be when his mind was made up.
"To reward Davien for all his hard work so far concerning the company, I've taken the initiative to arrange a marriage between him and the heir of Saint incorporations," Father told everyone, making a complete fool out of me!
I cursed at Gwendolyn inwardly, certain that she must have had a hand in this scheme of his, one way or the other.
Oliver on the contrary, was just as shocked as I was to hear about my supposed wedding! And at that, to the daughter of our rival company!
Had father perhaps lost a few of the screws in his head? Merging our companies and planning a wedding that I reckon will never happen.
'Can we talk outside father? Just the two of us?' I asked him through the mind link, already standing at the half-opened door, a mean scowl on my well-chiseled face.
"Drink! Enjoy yourselves, everyone! The Alpha is getting married!" The madman cried out, acting a tad too dramatic for a man in his early fifties.
Once we were outside and alone, I immediately dropped the overly polite accent and narrowed my eyes at him, about to explode from rage.
"What is this about Son?" He dared to ask, flashing a worried expression at me.
I scoffed at how he feigned ignorance, and ran my fingers tips through my locks of hair, too dumbfounded to say anything back.
"Is this about the announcement?" Father inquired, almost fooling me for a second that he might have had me in mind.
"Yes, it's about the announcement! What the hell was that?! A merger? A marriage? When did I ever agree to any of this?" I demanded, resting my hands on my hips.
"If I told you beforehand, you would have never agreed to it, you're just as headstrong as your mother was." He said, referring to mom whenever he wanted to guilt me into doing something.
"Don't be such a spoilsport, I hear that Silvia is quite the catch and not just that. She's resourceful, witty, and has the respect of her pack members. It would be beneficial to the pack if this merger pushes through."
I relaxed my tensed shoulders and pinched my temples, "I know all that, but still, deciding to merge our companies...sorry our packs are too much! I'm the Alpha for fucks sake!" I said, trying to get through to him.
He pursued his lips and gulped his bottle of beer, spilling some of it unto his shirt.
"You're right that the merger would be beneficial for the pack, I was planning on approaching Saint incorporations about the idea. But..." I stressed the last word, taking my stance.
"I can't agree to marriage! You know me better than that."
"You're right, I do, which is why I set up these conditions." He stated, causing me to raise a brow in suspicion of these so-called conditions.
My wolf was boiling with rage at the thought of marrying that business-crazed woman. Partly because not only was she difficult to contact, but hard to get out of her clothes. If anyone was immune to my charms, then it had to be her.
Silvia Saint.
"First and foremost, Saint incorporations only agreed to the merger because of the marriage between you and Silvia. And secondly, I am willing to step down from my position as chairman of the board, and appoint you the new chairman of the company."
I wanted to interject and say something, but I had a feeling that more sinister was about to spew out of his mouth.
"But for that to happen, you need to marry Silvia within the next two weeks!" Father said with a wicked grin plastered on his face.
"Two weeks?" I voiced out, unsure I heard him right.
He nodded in confirmation then took another huge gulp of his beer, "once you two are married, and the merger is completed, I'll start the process of my retirement." He explained, staring into the empty bottle, searching for a drop of alcohol.
I pinched my chin and thought over the terms for a moment, "and what if I end up refusing?" His facial expression dampened at my question, I could sense his domineering aura still present despite being a retired Alpha.
"Then I'll disinherit you!" Father spoke harshly, "I've let you run amuck wagging your tail for every woman you come across. But not anymore, you're the leader of the pack, it's your responsibility to have a Luna." He took a pause and rested his hand on my shoulder.
"It's been five years son, it's time to move on." his grip on my shoulder tightened as he curled his lips into a comforting smile. "You can't keep running away forever." He genuinely said, calming down what little anger left in me.
