Miscarriage

Elijah paced back and forth, unable to contain his worry for Weyna. Meanwhile, Sarah's gaze remained fixed on the floor of the emergency department. She couldn't shake off the guilt that consumed her for not intervening earlier to stop the fight.

"Miss Weyna's relative?" The nurse's voice reached their ears and they immediately headed to the bed where the doctor was treating Weyna.

"How is she, doctor?" Elijah asked.

"Are you her husband?" the doctor asked, looking at Elijah, who was standing beside him.

Elijah remained silent for a few moments before shaking his head and saying, "Not yet, but we are planning to get married." Sarah was taken aback by Elijah's response, as she had no prior knowledge of their plans.

The doctor sighed and delivered the news, "I'm sorry to inform you that Miss Weyna has experienced a miscarriage. Given the early stage of the pregnancy, it is likely a result of the fall you mentioned earlier."

"She, she," Elijah stuttered, his voice filled with surprise. "Did you say she was pregnant? Is it possible?" He was taken aback, as he had no knowledge of Weyna's pregnancy. He recalled that they hadn't used any protection that night, but Weyna had assured him that she was on her period last week, dismissing any concerns of pregnancy.

The doctor tilted his head, trying to comprehend Elijah's question. "I'm not sure what you mean by 'is it possible'," he responded. "However, she is a healthy young woman, and engaging in sexual intercourse without any form of protection does carry the risk of pregnancy."

Overwhelmed by the weight of the situation, Elijah's initial shock gradually transformed into devastation, his heart heavy with the loss they had suffered.

"So, for these two weeks, please take great care of her. She needs emotional support," the doctor concluded his brief explanation and excused himself.

The doctor's words seemed to pass by him as he lost in his own thoughts. He stared at Weyna, who lay on the bed, feeling a mixture of emotions. He couldn't explain his feelings at that moment. Cupping his head as the weight of his emotions became too much to bear, he suddenly made a sudden move to rush out.

"Where are you going?" Sarah, quick to react, stepped in Elijah's way, blocking his path. Her surprise was shown as she looked at Elijah's anguished face, contorted with anger.

"I'm going to find that bitch!" Elijah gritted his teeth.

"Calm down first," Sarah's voice carried concern and her eyes reflecting the shared pain they both felt.

Elijah's gaze met Sarah's. In that moment, words felt inadequate to convey the depth of his sorrow and anger. He took a deep breath, his fists clenched tightly, before finally managing to choke out a single word, laden with emotion, "Why?"

Silence enveloped Sarah's surroundings as she struggled to find her voice. The truth was, there was no clear answer, no justification for the pain they were now facing. The reality of the situation settled upon her, and she cast her gaze downward, her eyes fixed on the floor. Guilt gnawed at her, as if she were somehow responsible for the loss they had endured.

"I'm sorry," That's the only word that was out of her lips as she was unable to form the words she longed to say. Sarah reached out, gently placing her hand on Elijah's arm. It was a silent gesture, an attempt to convey her empathy and shared sorrow.

Grace, who had been following them to the hospital, recognised an opportunity to exploit their pain for her own gain. With a devious glint in her eyes, she secretly captured the poignant scene on her phone, fully aware of its potential as a powerful tool in her plan.

"You choose the wrong opponent Sarah," she said, sending the picture immediately to Noah.

Sarah walked weakly down the hallway, making her way back to her apartment. Weyna needed to stay in the hospital for the night, and Sarah decided to return home since the room was overcrowded.

As she reminisced about when Weyna's parents had arrived, a feeble smile formed on her face. It had been challenging to explain the situation to them, but Elijah had done a great job in convincing them. He apologised and assured them that he would take full responsibility for Weyna, no matter what happened.

As Sarah stepped inside her house, she began to take off her shoes. However, her movement came to a sudden halt as she glanced down at her left foot. A perplexed expression crossed her face as she noticed that she was wearing two different shoes. She couldn't help but chuckle at the realisation.

"Are you that happy?" Noah's voice could be heard from the living room.

"Oh God!" Startled, Sarah gripped the wall for support, surprised by Noah's unexpected presence. "What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice filled with astonishment.

"Why? This is my house, after all," Noah stood up and approached Sarah slowly. "Where have you been?"

"At the hospital," she replied, placing her shoes on the shoe rack.

"With Elijah?" Noah asked, stopping a couple of steps away from Sarah.

Sarah looked surprised. She glanced up at him, "How did you know? Something-"

"Because you made it public!" Noah suddenly shouted, slamming his phone down on the floor, causing Sarah to tremble in fear.

Impulsively stepping back, Sarah glanced at the cracked screen of the phone. The picture displayed her attempting to console Elijah in his time of grief. "Where... where did you get this picture?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Noah sneered, "Does it really matter?"

"It does," Sarah raised her head, summoning the courage to meet Noah's gaze, despite her overwhelming fear.

"I guess one isn't enough for you, huh? After Daniel, now you're going after Elijah?" Noah accused, showing no remorse.

"What?" Sarah frowned, unable to believe what she had just heard. "I don't know what you think of me, but please, could you let me explain?" She gulped, hoping Noah would calm down and give her the chance to explain everything.

Noah scoffed and let out a sarcastic laugh. "I don't think you deserve my time," he said, grabbing his phone. He pushed Sarah aside, making his way towards the door.

"Then, don't you owe me any explanation?" Sarah's words halted Noah in his tracks.
