Chapter Three: The Changeling

After history ended Nick tried to find Belle but she was with her friends so Nick went to walk to his next class with Bones. Bones seemed off today, Nick wondered if Bones was also sad about Roger. Nick hugged Bones and Bones responded with a look of confusion, Bones probably was not sad about Roger's death. Bones might not have been sad at all but he seemed off. Nick followed Bones in the shadows and noticed Bones wasn't going to class, this was unusual because Bones loves all his lessons. Something bad was going to happen, Nick just didn't know what. Bones met up with a small girl, she looked about 5 years old, Nick asked himself why she was in school but he had no time for questions he had to listen into their conversation.

"Have you retrieved the elixir?" asked the little girl.

"Yes," responded Bones.

"Great!" The girl cheerily answered.

"So will you now be able to shift at will?" asked Bones.

"Hopefully," answered the little girl.

The little girl shifted into an adult woman, she looked like she was in her 30's. Nick was shocked and was about to scream but quickly covered his mouth.

"After I take this, I won't have to kill the people I want to shift into," said the woman

"That's great!" answered Bones.

"Have you ever shifted, Clark?"

"No, I never have. I can't kill someone, that's wrong. I now it's our culture to kill humans to shift into them, but I just can't do that."

"Well hopefully in the future you will change your mind,"

"Hopefully not, anyways what else does that elixir grant?"

"Well I don't have to kill to shift into someone and I can gain their abilities,"

"Wait, what do you mean by that"

"Let's say if a person could breathe fire, when I shift into them I would also be able to breathe fire"

"But no one can breathe fire, that's not humanly possible,"

"That's right, it's not 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘭𝘺 possible,"

"So you're saying there are other supernatural beings?

"Yeah there are, there's witches, werewolves, vampires, demons and other monsters,"

"Wow, it's nice to know that we aren't alone,"

"No it's not, all other supernatural species are enemies of us changelings. We are a dying species because werewolves and witches thought to have killed us all many moons ago."

"What about the vampires and demons?"

"Our blood is toxic to vampires, but that doesn't mean they tortured us. Demons used to be our allies, but they all left us and returned to Hell."

"So we are all alone?"

"Yes, us changelings are all alone."

With that said, the women drank the elixir and shifted into Bones, Bones and the shifted version of himself jumped happily in rejoice to the elixir working. She sifted back into herself and waved goodbye to Bones and left the school. Nick looked at Bones worringly from the shadows, if Bones acts upon the information he has been told it would cause an unnecessary feud.

When Nick returned home from school he told Martin all what the woman had told Bones. Martin and Nick both did not know what to do, they figured they were overreacting and that Bones would not try and kill people or supernatural beings. Besides, Bones did not know that Nick was a vampire. All he knew was that Nick was a new student who befriended him, that's all Nick wanted Bones to know.

That very night Martin went changeling hunting, he was going to find the lady and tell her to leave Bones out of all this supernatural drama. After a few hours Martin found her and stabbed her with a knife. Swiftly, she grabbed the knife and then grabbed Martin's neck and then put the knife along his neck. Martin feared for his life, his life was in the hands of an enhanced changeling. She shapeshifted into Martin and tied Martin to a tree, she then set the tree on fire and walked away cackling. The changeling went all the way back to the Maledett estate to cause mayhem.

"Hello Martin," said Nick.

"Hey Nick," replied the changeling pretending to be Martin.

"So did you catch the changeling?"

"Uh no... not exactly, hey what do you know about changelings anyways,"

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing, why are you interested about catching a changeling,"

"To question it? It was your idea, I can't have Bones lurking around trying to kill vampires. Imagine if he found out I was one,"

"You're- you are- a.. a.. vampire!?"

"Yes? You have always known, well Martin has,"

Nick grabbed the knife in his pocket and stabbed it into the changeling, the changeling gave herself away when she was shocked that Nick was a vampire. The changeling screamed in agony, she was changing back into her original form. She then laid silently on the floor, Nick closed her eyes and put her body into a coffin. He then wondered where Martin was, he hoped he was all right. Nick phoned Bones to make sure he had not done anything stupid.

"Hey Bones," said Nick.

"Nick what's up?" replied Bones.

"You weren't in lesson earlier today, why?"

"Something came up,"

"Ah okay, so who was that little girl in school?"

"What girl?"

"You know, the little girl. She was in the hallway and I swear I saw her with you-"

"That's my little sister,"

"So was the other woman your mother?"

"No she's apart of the school staff,"

"Interesting, just needed to make sure,"

"Okay, see you tomorrow"

Bones cut the call, Nick was worried that he blew his cover. Nick did not have time to worry about that though, all he could think about was Martin. Nick saw Martin as a father figure despite Nick being way older than him, Nick wouldn't let anything happen to Martin. So, Nick decided that very same night that he would search everywhere for Martin, it doesn't matter the city, country or continent. Martin was the only family Nick had left. Yet, Nick ran into some trouble, he had no money, no passport, no nothing. He would have to get help from someone who Nick doesn't even consider family anymore... his brother, Matt.
