“There’s that talent show tonight. Maybe everybody’s inside getting drunk and singing off-key.”
“Why aren’t you?”
Alec grinned. “Getting drunk? You haven’t offered me any alcohol yet.”
“I mean, aren’t you interested in the talent show?”
“Not really. I get why other people like all the special activities planned, but that’s not really my thing.”
“Yeah, it’s not really mine, either,” Nick agreed.
“Why not?” Alec asked. “Most of the guys in there are drunk off their asses. You could have your pick of men every night.”
“Sober men tend not to puke as much.”
Alec laughed softly. “That’s a good point. I hope you didn’t learn that the hard way.”
“No, it just seems like common sense.”
“Well, I wish I had been smart as you. Before I learned that lesson the hard way.”
Nick smiled. It was different from his other smiles. Not quite so guarded. “That’s awful. What happened?”
