"Oh goodness." The old man looked at the woman in front of him. Her wolf-like appearance triggered a primal fear in him. He tried to step backwards, but fell onto the wooden bench behind him.
Knowing the man was innocent and considering it was her only option, she asked politely, "Excuse me, can you bring this boat on to the other side of the city wall over there?" Alya pointed into the direction of the princess.
The gray, short hair on top of his head had thinned and grown a bald spot. His face was glistening in the light of a lantern hanging on a wall, the man had broken into a sweat, "Yeah, yeah." He stood up, his legs trembled and he avoided eye contact. With his back hunched, hurriedly, he walked past Alya and through the door.
The sail was lowered and the boat started moving. She was done running, the black smoke fell off of her arms and the black claws disappeard. She consciously kept the legs for now, but she walked on two even if they were not build for it.
When Alya left the small room, the man had already moved to the steering wheel on top of the cabin. His clothes billowed in the warm wind coming from the burning horizon. It felt a little livelier on the coast.
She could see the fighting in the distance, it was still ongoing. A few ships had caught fire, adding to the light and contrasting the dark night sky. The waves reflected small spots of the hell on the sea. The cannons on the walls and on the ships had stopped firing by that point.
"What'cha think happenin' on the ships yonder?" The man followed Alya's gaze into the distance.
"People are beeing slaughtered, that's for sure." Alya answered.
The man looked at her unmoving face before facing back to the wind.
"Where are we goin?" His eyes kept staring into the light.
"Right there." Alya spotted figures coming out of a hole in the cliffs, they quickly entered the beach. The soldiers' torches lit up the bright dress of the running princess.
The old man saw as well, he turned the rudder slightly. The soal bloated up as their speed increased towards the beach, "Got ya."
Alya pulled her bow from her shoulder, "Seems like it wasn't a waste to carry this around the whole time." Out of a thin, long pouch on her leg, she drew an arrow.
"Wait..." The old man squinted his eyes as he looked towards the beach, "Is that-"
Alya let her arrow fly, the wind blew into her back.
"Unbelievable." The geezer lifted the sides of his mouth.
It flew across the sea, not getting one bit closer to the surface. Only when the soldiers noticed a swooshing sound in the distance, did it start to drop towards them.
The old man behind Alya leaned over the railing and widened his eyes in anticipation. The moment the arrow hit one of the soldiers, he started dropping his jaw. Suddenly, he began laughing and ran back to the steering wheel.
Alya looked at him for a moment, then knocked a second arrow. She quickly fired into the moving group, the ship had almost reached the beach.
"Here we come!" The man screamed.
Small clouds of black mist formed around Alya's arms, "Looks like I need these again."
The boat beached as Alya jumped off using both her legs and arms once more. The sand caught her weight and she started sprinting towards the fleeing royalty.
She could hear the old man shouting behind her, "Get the meek princess! Get her! Get her" He laughed loudly. Alya could only shake her head in confusion.
The soldiers started slowing down. As soon as they stopped, Amelia stepped out between them. Alya's instincts told her to run away, but she pressed forward. She saw the princess breathe in and jumped to the side before the spell could finish coming out.
She shouted, the princess screamed at Alya, but she jumped out of the way. A wave of pressure barely passed her, the suction of air pushed her back onto her original path. For a moment, she thought everything went well, then she heard the crashing of wood breaking behind her. The exploding fishing boat's pieces, flew into the sky.
It could have been a bad idea to force herself into that danger, yet she kept moving, she was almost there.
A few soldiers stormed into her direction, but she dodged or cut them down. The princess was so close.
Amelia did not want to kill her soldiers using her own magic, so she waited for a moment. When she saw the disgusting wolf lady sprint towards her, she felt like there was no choice to make, "I'm sorry." Amelia started to close her eyes, the wolf woman's hair was falling into her face as she moved like the animal she was.
Alya knew what would come for her, she hoped her newfound legs were strong enough. From a hasteful sprint in one moment, she stopped most of her movement using her arms in only a second. Her body flew into the air, she reached for the air above her and closed her eyes, yet the shock wave hit.
It did not hurt. The cool breeze brushed over her face, she felt her body turn slightly. Alya opened her eyes, she was a few meter above the princess, her arms straightened she fell onto the woman's head.
The black claws dug deep into her shoulders, Amelia could feel the cold in her flesh. She ripped open her eyes. The hunting beast pressed her to the ground. She felt despair, she knew her life was lost. Maybe she had done something wrong in life, or the world was out to get her. Amelia knew she would be killed one day, but she never expected it to be her enemy.
"Only a friend can change you. Their attempt might make them a foe, but only if you fear their words."
