Chapter Twenty Nine: I beg to differ

They got off the plane and walked to where Leo's car driver was waiting with Becca walking beside him, dragging her luggage with one hand and holding her handbag in the other. Leo had offered to help her but like the feisty little kitten she was, she swatted his hand away.

On reaching where the car was parked, Leo looked over his shoulder and saw Becca trying to stop a taxi but the idea of her getting into a taxi didn't sit well with him. It was late at night and for all, they knew the taxi driver could be a serial killer or something. Maybe even a rapist. And he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if anything bad was to happen to her when he could have prevented it.

With that thought, he walked to where Becca stood.

" Come, I will give you a ride home." He said, taking her by the wrist and pulling her luggage towards his car.

" You don't have to, I can manage. I was just about to call a taxi." She responded but it didn't change his mind one bit. He still felt uneasy about the whole taxi thing.

" Do you even know what time it is? It's late and for all, we know the cab driver might even be a human parts dealer." Leo said and Becca gave him a skeptical look, probably thinking he was exaggerating. " It happens you know." Yes, those kinds of things do happen and he knew it very well because he worked with some of the sick fucks that did those types of shit.

" I can't get into your car, it would be inconveniencing you and besides we aren't even going the same way. I don't want to be a burden." She politely declined his generous offer but he wasn't having any of it.

" But I insist. Let me take you home." He insisted and Becca narrowed her pretty green eyes at him, trying to see if there were any hidden agendas behind his words.

Leo saw the look Becca was giving him and smiled. As much as he would love to indulge in what she was thinking, it was too early in their growing relationship for that.

" Come on, Becca." He coaxed, opening the backseat door for her. Sighing, Becca relented and stepped into his overly expensive Maybach. He got in right after she did to sit next to her but his lips twitched in amusement when he saw her sitting at the extreme end of the seat. With her back pressed to the window, only a little force was needed for her to become one with it.

She was running away from him, how cute. She was adorable for thinking she could escape his clutches again, adorable for thinking she could run but sadly, she was also very wrong.

The was no escaping him and she would learn that soon enough. He leaned back on the seat and exhaled. Today was just the start of his pursuit and he would make sure it ends in his favor. With Kristina's malice temporarily out of the way, nothing was stopping him from having Becca.

In his head, Becca was his and only his, no one had the right to her but him. He was willing to run to the moon and back if that's what it would take to have her. And though he knew that loved her more than any earthly possession he owned, he wasn't aware his feelings were turning very possessive. Very obsessive.

Leo was getting obsessed with Becca and God help the people who would be crazy enough to hinder his plans of getting her because he would make hell look like paradise in comparison to where he would take them.

On their way to Becca's apartment, the car ride was quiet as nobody felt the urge to speak but that silence was soon broken by the sound of his phone ringing. He took it out of his pocket and frowned when he saw who was calling. Alfonso, one of his made men, a hitman, and also one of his most trusted associates, just happened to feel the need to call him at a time like this.

Talk about wrong timing.

Leo knew whatever Alfonso was going to tell him was about the mafia, no doubt about it. He felt a bit hesitant to pick up the call because he didn't want to discuss those kinds of things in front of her, at least not yet. He didn't want to scare her. But he also knew that Alfonso wouldn't be stupid to call him up for something that wasn't important.

The man knew better than to waste the boss's time.

Leo took a look at Becca, seeing as she had adjusted on her seat and was now looking through the window, he picked up the call.

" Alfonso" Leo was the first one to speak, wanting Alfonso to go straight to the point.

" Boss, one of our warehouses in Manhattan got burnt down leaving most of the goods damaged and non-functional anymore. People say it's just a mere fire outbreak but I suspected that it was one of our business rivals." The man on the other line reported, causing Leo's eyes to twitch in anger.

All Leo's storage warehouses in Manhattan were filled to the brim so if there were any serious damages to his goods then it meant he would lose money. Big money. Money that was hard to come by these days, not with the police breathing on his neck because of that bastard Lazzerro's case.

Perhaps he should buy the entire police department, it would surely lessen the problems he had to deal with. But he had to admit, the people who did this to him had some guts. Too bad they weren't only courageous but also looking for a death sentence which he was more than willing to give them. His grip tightened on his phone, almost crushing it. His chest heaved up and down as he took deep breaths just like his therapist instructed so he wouldn't have another outburst.

His outbursts make him go out of control and start killing people that look... Well, killable.

" Is there anything else?" Leo impatiently asked.

" My suspicions were right, it was arson and we caught one of the arsonists. He's with that Ramus kid as we speak and Johnny seems to be doing a great job restructuring the bastard's parts to get information." Alfonso said and a wicked smile stretched Leo's lips.

Good, very good. At least now he had a scapegoat that he would vent out all his frustration on. Leo would make those bastards, who tried to screw his business up, pay every dime he lost with blood. Their blood.

" Good, make sure you give that courageous gentleman our best hospitality during his stay. We wouldn't want him to think less of the Kanes, after all, we are generous people." Leo said and hung up the phone. Turning to Becca, he saw her staring at him, blinking with eyes filled with curiosity.

" You have a guest?" She asked and he let out a tired sigh then scooted closer to her and leaned his head on her shoulder, totally ignoring the warning glaring she was sending him.

" Yes, a very annoying one at that. You know what? I don't want to go, I rather stay here with you." He said and sniffed her neck. " Have I ever told you that you smell delightful?"

" No, and get off me. Your head is too big and heavy." She complained and tried pushing his head off her shoulder but he wouldn't move.

" It isn't the only thing that's too big." Leo shamelessly said and Becca face palmed herself, feeling utterly mortified by his shamelessness.

He was literally advertising and saying how big he was to a total stranger. Like who the hell does that?

'What a strange man he was.' Becca thought to herself. But strange or not, it still didn't stop him from being, as I have said before, drop-dead gorgeous.

" So why aren't you in a relationship?" Leo asked out of nowhere, wanting her attention back on him as he saw she was staring out the window again and didn't like it when she did that to ignore him. Well, it worked. She turned to look at him and raised a brow.

" Who says I'm not in one?" She asked and Leo grinned, enjoying having all her attention to himself.

" Says the handsome businessman you are sitting next to." He answered and she rolled her eyes.

" First of all, conceited much? Secondly, how sure are you I don't have a boyfriend waiting for me back home?" She asked, feigning annoyance when deep inside she couldn't seem to stop her heart from jumping for joy.

" Me, conceited? No, I'm just confident enough to accept myself the way I am. Very much confident to say there is no significant other, else you would have called him at a point since we landed. But not only have you not called or texted anymore, but you also haven't received any either." He said in a calm tone while looking at her. His full attention was on her and hers on him, just as it should be.

" Woah! I see someone is a know it all when it comes to relationships. You know not every woman likes reporting their every activity to a man." She sighed. " Some like to keep things to themselves as well."

" Is that the reason why you were very quiet around me?"

" It's not about you, that's just how I am. I don't suppose you prefer me to randomly blurt out details of my existence when I'm around you." Becca said sarcastically and Leo smiled.

" That would be a great start actually. How else are we gonna connect unless we get to truly know each other?" He asked and she shot him a vicious glare.

" Get to truly know each other? You make it sound like we are dating which we are most definitely not. I just met you like what? Four times? You are my business partner and I don't like mixing business with pleasure." She stated straightforwardly, averting her gaze from him but his eyes remained on her, never leaving and she knew it.

" Well, I beg to differ."

" Excuse me? Becca exclaimed, whipping her head in his direction in disbelief and stared at him like he had sprouted two extra heads. Leo leaned closer to her, so close that their faces were merely inches apart.

" You speak as if it's the worst thing to do. We are both single, so I don't see why we can't give it a try." He said, hypnotizing her again with his charming accent.

" I don't want to go out with you." She declined in a low voice, still refusing to look at him because she knew if she did then she would be done for.

Becca knew she wouldn't be able to refuse him easily because he was so good looking so she decided not to look at him at all before her stupid fangirl attitude got the best of her.

" Who said I only want to go out with you? Sweetheart, there are a lot of things I would love to do to you, to do with you and I'm sure you would enjoy them as much as I would, maybe even more." He said, flashing her a wicked smile.

" You are deranged." She snarled.

Chuckling, Leo tucked the strands of hair that fell on Becca's face behind her ear. He brought his lips close to her ear and gently bit her earlobe, sending shivers down her spine.

" I never said I wasn't though." He whispered to her. Reaching Becca's apartment building, Leo's car stopped in front of it. " We're here, sweetheart," Leo announced and pushed himself back to his seat. He watched Becca open the car door, hastily got out, and slammed the door shut.

Instantly, she bolted into the building as if being chased by a human-eating monster.
