Chapter 32: The Golden Wolf

Clara’s POV

I wanted to scream, but no sound left my mouth as I staggered backwards away from the wolf. I turned, seeing the break in the hedges that led back into the garden and dashed forward, my heart hammering in my chest.

He was suddenly in front of me, his lips pulled back over large, shiny teeth.

I gasped, choking on the sound as I stepped backwards and lost my footing, falling hard onto my bottom. I dug my heels into the ground, pushing myself backwards until there was a reasonable distance between us.

Randall’s ears twitched, his eyes intent on mine for the briefest of moments, then he lunged forward.

This time I did scream, terror rippling through my body as his teeth sank into the hem of my robe. I kicked against him, his dense fur making it impossible for my kicks to land against his flesh. He yanked on my robe with his teeth until I heard the fabric tear, the noise mingling with my strangled sounds of protest as I wriggled out of the rich velvet fabric.
