Aurora's POV
There was nothing that could ruin this day. I had been given hope that I hadn’t known I needed. If there was hope for me then there was hope for my mother and any other Omega there was that hated being labeled by something that they couldn’t control.
I stopped running as soon as my feet touched the landing of our porch. After Alpha Liam dismissed me, I left the pack house and ran home. I needed to share the news with my mom, no one would be happier. She was faced with the struggle of being trapped her entire life, but things were changing now. I was changing things.
“Mom, I’ve got the best news.”
I pushed open the front door and began my search for her. It didn’t take long before the familiar auburn hair came into view. She was sitting at the kitchen table glancing out the window, her mind most likely drifted to another time. There were days when I’d find her just sitting and thinking. She would never tell me about what, just that it was of a different time.
“Mom,” I repeated, trying to gain her attention. She blinked before turning to face me, a simple smile on her face as she came back to reality.
“How was training? Faith told me you had to stay behind and talk with the Alpha. I hope you’re not getting into trouble already. I know you don’t want to be here, but I would like it if you at least gave it a chance.”
I couldn’t argue with her. I made a habit of making things harder than they had to be, but in my defense, it wasn’t my fault. I assumed that I got my sharp tongue and quick wit from my deadbeat father since my mother was always shy and soft-spoken.
“I promise I’m behaving,” I said. It technically wasn’t a lie. I didn’t do anything that the Alpha hadn’t asked me to do.
Sure, he didn’t ask me to strangle Jessica with my thighs, but he did place me on the mat with her knowing that one of us would win and the other would lose. Did he think I would win? He didn’t seem surprised that I had won during training.
“The Alpha asked me to stay behind because he wants me to do private training,” I said with a full smile on my face.
My mother didn’t smile at me. Her face dropped and a soft sigh left her lips. Why was she sad? Did she not understand that this was the first step to changing everything?
“I’ll speak with him. There’s no point in getting your hopes up, Aurora. We are who we are and that’s never changing.”
Her voice was cold, but I could hear the sadness behind her words. My mother never told me what happened in her previous pack, but I had assumed it was something bad. She refused to talk about my father, my grandparents, or her life before me, and the older I got the less I asked.
“Mom, I want to train with him. You should’ve seen me today, I won and with a little bit more training we could change the future for Omegas.”
I needed her to see what I did. This was a good thing; this was a step toward change. A change that I was helping to create. I needed her to see the bigger picture. I knew it would be hard work, but I was willing to put in the effort.
She slammed her hands down on the table and stood from the wooden chair. I had never seen my mother get this angry over something that was supposed to be positive.
“Enough, Aurora. I said no. I’ll talk to the Alpha about getting you excused from training permanently.”
“You can’t do that! Just because your childhood was pathetic doesn’t mean mines has to be. I’m training with the Alpha whether you like it or not! I refuse to end up like you!” I screamed.
She was being unreasonable and projecting her trauma onto me. Alpha Liam believed that I was capable of much more and I owed it to myself to find out. I had beaten Jessica and she was a regular wolf, which meant there was a chance for improvement.
“Aurora Ivy Hamilton! You watch your mouth and what I said is the finale. You will no longer be training! Now go to your room!” She pointed in the direction of the steps, her face red with anger. I scoffed and walked upstairs, slamming the door to my bedroom.
She was severally mistaken if she thought that I wasn’t going to take Alpha Liam up on his offer to train. I had to give it a try and if I didn’t improve that was something I could live with because at least I tried.
I closed my eyes as I tried to calm myself down. One thing was clear, my mother didn’t believe in me, but the Alpha did.
“Alpha.”
I forced my mind to focus on him, his broad shoulders, the tattoos that littered his arms, the outline of his jaw, and the sparkle of those gray eyes.
“Aurora,” his deep voice filtered through my mind. A smile came across my face at the sound. If it were possible, he sounded sexier. He sounded like he was desperately in need of sleep, but oddly enough he was awake.
“I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
I bite my bottom lip as I waited for his reply. I sat down on the bed and clutched the pillow to my chest. My heart was racing as I waited for him to answer. I hadn’t felt this nervous ever. Even when Dillion asked me out, I hadn’t been nervous, I had expected it. Alpha Liam was different; he was an enigma, and I wouldn’t mind figuring him out more.
“How can I help you?” he asked. I held the pillow close to my chest and fell back onto the bed. How did he expect me to focus with his voice sounding so gruff and sexy in my head?
“Aurora are you still there?” he asked. He sounded concerned, somehow sounding cuter. I could almost see those gray eyes sparkling with concern as his luscious lips jutted out, pleading for me to answer him.
“Yes, I’m here. I wanted to know if your offer was still on the table. I want you to make me stronger,” I said.
There was no going back from this and to be honest, I didn’t care. I was determined to prove my mother wrong as well as everyone else who ridiculed me for being an Omega. I was more than that stupid ranking and I wanted to show everyone that.
“For you, anything.”
“Alpha? Do you think I can do it … be better than an Omega is supposed to be?”
“You already are. Goodnight, Aurora. We start training at six in the morning.”
“Goodnight, Alpha.”
I smiled into my pillow, thinking about the conversation that we had just had. Alpha Liam may have looked tough on the outside, but he seemed so sweet on the inside. He believed that I could be more than my ranking, and that was enough for me.
All I needed was someone other than myself to believe in me and with Alpha Liam’s help, I was sure to be unstoppable. My mother and everyone else would regret not believing in me. I wouldn’t let Alpha Liam down, I couldn’t.
