As If She Were My Own.

As walked into my house, I heard my mother in the living room talking so I head there, not because she was there but because I thought I heard Sunshine and I wanted to see her.

As I entered the room, Sunshine was in my mother's arms and her nanny was standing by ready to hand over her bottle.

My mother smiled when she saw me, Come son; come and feed her. it's been a long time since you called me to tell me you wereheading home, so I decided to come down with her to save you the journey of heading upstairs. You were about to go upstairs and see her right? She asked teasingly

I laughed....good to see you too mother I said heading to the restroom to wash my hands.

I don't dare carry Sunshine without washing my hands, that's my mother's first rule when it come to Sunshine.

Her instructions to everyone who takes care and comes in contract with Sunshine is to, "Wash your hands thoroughly before you lift her in your arms. Use a sanitizer if needed – remember, when it comes to baby's health and safety, there is nothing wrong with being overly careful". Also, all the rooms that she stays or plays in must be kept sanitized. The house keeping staff are to take extra measures in cleaning the floors of the rooms and bathroom with a disinfectant, since there is now a baby in the house.

I read that baby's immune system is incredibly sensitive, able to pick up many passing diseases and infections. Allergy-causing dust can easily find its way onto a baby's body, particularly through their hands and feet. So they're at risk for infection and the best defense is to protect them by practising good hygiene the perfect way to help prevent a number of health complications.

After I had done that, I carried Sunshine, sat down and started feeding her.

Hello there, I said to her. She didn't even look at me and just sucked on her bottle. She was very focused on it, I smiled at her dotingly.

It was like ah you just feed me , I'm not interested in your greetings. You're not even looking at me I said to her laughing. She paused for ome seconds as if resting and then continued sucking again

This one; She doesn't play with anyone during feeding. She has zero tolerance for anyone at that time my mother added also laughing.

She is so adorable. She said looking at us lovely; and you two are so adorable together.

She is beginning to look like you, she observed looking surprised.

How can? I asked looking at my mother. I must have mistakenly pulled the bottle out of Sunshine"s mouth because the next thing we heard was her loud protest...

Oh sorry I said to her adjusting the feeding bottle, you need to see her angry eyes; It was like "focus man"!

After feeding and burping her, the next thing I noticed she started making baby sounds and smiling at me.Ooh so you just saw me right I asked her playfully.

She just continued smiling. I have been reading about babies online and it says at this stage she will smile more and make plenty baby sounds.

I now understand why some couples after having a baby, just seems to talk about the baby everytime. They come and take over your life; Well in a good way.

I suddenly wished her mother was here. Sunrshine is growing and ...

My mother interrupted my thoughts; Seriously she really is getting to look like you she said again. You know there is a saying that when people start staying together after sometime they start to look alike and then again you dote on her so much.

I looked at her, then looked down at Sunshine who was staring at me.

She does look like her mother I replied.

Yes but sometimes when she smiles she reminds me of you when you were a baby she added gently.

Really mum, I said still looking at Sunshine who has a mega watt smile on her face, looking very contented.

I noticed she has really taken to you my mother remarked. I''m really surprised at the way you're taking care of her. I really didn't expect that from you my mother remarked in a surprised tone.

I thought when you brought her home that you'll just leave everything about her to her nanny and the household staff.

But you care for her as if she were your own. You wake up at night to feed and change her, you sing to her, soothe her to sleep. I'm so proud of you son my mother conclude looking at me with pride on her face.

I'm so happy at this development because it also means you're ready. You will make a wonderful and doting father Eric, my mother added.

I smiled, thank you mother. I guess I surprised myself too. Ready for what I asked her, pretending I don't understand what she was getting at.

She ignored me and rolled her yes at me, and I just laughed.

'As if she were my own". That statement kept ringing in my head , my own? I looked at Sunshine and wanted her to be my own, my hands tightened around her.

When I made the decision to bring her home, honestly at that time I also thought I was crazy because I didn't know the first thing about babies but I knew I couldn't leave her there. I was so taken with her that I didn't think about it. But now, in the short time we have met, I don't see my life without Sunshine.

I had long thought of taking her home since the first time I saw her.

Still looking at Sunshine, I smiled at her. Yes Sunshine, I want to make you my own. I want to protect, care and love you, nobody and I mean nobody can hurt you without going through me first.

She smiled back at me sleepily as if she heard me. I got up and walked upstairs with her to the nursery, placing her on her baby cot. I gave her a kiss on her chubby cheeks, she is putting on some weight I noticed.

I caressed her cheeks. Sleep well Sunshine I have to go see your mother I said to her, leaving her room quietly.

She will probably wake up in the next two to three hours to eat, because babies digestive system are so small they need nourishment every few hours so I better go catch some sleep after seeing Katie I want to be the one to feed her.
