Chapter 48

Delaney was already on her fourth glass as she climbed up the spiral staircase that connected the ground floor with the first floor. Despite having no make up at all, she still attracted curious glances from the people she cane across, both men and women but she just ignored them.

The staircase opened up to a ballroom, where slow music was playing and the dancefloor was filled with people. There were couches and armchairs around the room and some people sat, chatting merrily. It was unlike the ground floor where music buzzed loudly and Delaney felt more relaxed. Mostly because of the liquor, but also because of the atmosphere.
