"No," Nefera paced the side of the pool as I said the word for the twelfth time. We'd stepped outside to talk after she'd been in the bathroom, and we hadn't gone back in. "That's my final answer. No."
"How come I have to accept it when you're the one knowingly going into danger?" She glared at me, her arms crossed and a pout on her lips. She looked tired, and neither of us was at our best to have this conversation, but even if I'd slept a whole night, the answer would be the same. "Now that it's me, you decide to be like this?"
"Nefera, I love you. You know that, but you are pregnant, and that fucking asshole wants to make you get rid of our son!" I tried keeping my voice down, but I knew they could hear us inside. "I'm not sending you in there, knowing it's putting the both of you in danger."
"He won't hurt us," Nefera came closer, her eyes pleading. "Odie will be with me the whole time. You think she'll let anything happen to me?"
