chapter nine

You know, my little sister wants to become a makeup artist. she has devoted her life and all her extra time into learning makeup tricks on YouTube and teaching herself professional makeup.'' Noah said to Lily.

Like his persistence and stubbornness, Noah had insisted on walking home with Lily everyday and leaving her a few blocks from her home. He was nagging and he did not take no for an answer. Lily so it's safer to allow the boy Walk Beside her. That way she will be able to direct where the situation would go.

''And how is that supposed to be my business?'' Lily asks in a cold tone. over these past few weeks she has attempted everything to get Noah off her back but nothing seems to work.

'' your makeup, the way you do it shows that you're very talented.'' he said to her, hands resting inside his pocket as he kicked Little Rock playfully. Lily was taken aback by his words. she did not know how to react to the compliment, especially because she didn't expect it. and I like Noah did not want to compliment her about anything. He had tried being overly friendly with her but Lily had to constantly remind her where the line was drawn.

''Noah Hamilton, is that a compliment?'' Her interns are ways to become playful but it however comes out as stern. Noah still chuckles at her choice of words and the joys of finally finding an easier side of Lily.

''Yes it is. I think you're very beautiful and talented. not all the girls at school are able to draw their eyebrows perfectly or put on the right amount of Foundation over their skin. Not everyone is able to apply concealer in the right pattern or know where the blush and bronzer are supposed to go. It's not everyone who is able to perfectly align their lashes or put in the right amount of Glitter over their cheeks. it's really about chemistry and passion when you figure out that everything about makeup revolves around complimenting ones beauty.'' He was almost lost in his notes. finally Lily had figured him out.

'' you're a makeup-freak.'' she returns, silence raining over the both of them for those few moments.

'' I hate the last word, I'm not a freak.'' he argues back, his eyebrows lining in a concussion showing how extremely uncomfortable he was discussing the topic. but hadn't he brought it up?

'' Okay maybe you're not a freak, but you definitely love makeup.'' Lily says, her fingers clutching the straps of her bag as she will adjust it to make sure that the weight of her books did not slow down her movements.

'' no I do not. this is simple Mathematics and science.'' he defends himself.

'' you might want to make it simple but I bet that if I asked any other guy at school, they wouldn't even mention two makeup products. I just heard you mention Foundation bronzer blush concealer lashes and glitter. if I didn't know better, I would say that you and your sister have something in common.''

'' that's enough talk about makeup. There is no space in our Society for a man to do feminine things. I'm happy taking the career of basketball and becoming just as successful as my father.''

'' says who, you can very well become who you want as long as you want it bad enough. Society has no right to dictate your life.'' she responds

'' well, arrange you becoming some motivational speaker of some sort.''

'' not exactly, I'm just picking the obvious truth.'' she argues.

'' ok, so let me ask you something, so do you believe that if the society is against what we really want in life, we should stand up for ourselves and make decisions for our future?'' Noah asks.

'' that is exactly what I'm saying. Human… I mean life in general is too short to let anyone confirm our souls to things that we are not passionate about.'' she says in relief, hoping that Noah would not question her choice of words when she mentioned humans. she was just about to blow her cover or make him begin to doubt her.

''I see, and what about standing up for the people that cause pain and suffering?'' he asks.

'' I believe that we should rid ourselves of toxic people and allow ourselves to grow into a place where we are emotionally and at peace with our mental health.'' Lily's response. Even though she would have wanted to stop herself, she realized the topic of mental health or something she really liked talking about. over the years really had developed a love for being a psychiatrist and had made it a dream career. This is what she wanted to do. she wanted to make a change to the lives of people by bringing and shading and light.

'' and what about violence? do you condone it?'' Noah asks. Lily is not catching up to train. She does not ask herself why Noah is so insistent on asking questions of that random pattern.

''Of course not. it is wrong and no one should have to endure it.'' she responds. In answering that question, she realizes how much it hits close to home. She would have wanted to share the light on violence and the damage that it does on a person not only physically but also emotionally. Lily however understands that those dreams would never be valid because I werewolf would never be allowed to live freely in a town full of humans. She could however never opt for the choice of becoming a psychiatrist in a werewolf pack because the nature of wolves was often violent and rampant.

''So one last question Lily,'' Noah says, snapping her out of her train of thoughts. she suddenly realizes how friendly and interactive she has been with her and Returns her facial expressions to a stoic and serious one.

'' last question.'' she says in a stern voice hoping that it will animate further to Noah and show him that he was not ready to further the conversation. But Lily was not prepared for the question that he asked next.

'' why do you let your father keep beating you up everyday?''
