Chapter 33: In His Arms

The farmhouse was silent. Everyone turned around, looking for any sign of their friends, Miles, Asher, and Caden.

“What happened? Where are they?” Edith asked breathlessly.

Judith looked in the hallway, “I don’t see any bodies…anywhere…at all.”

Lewis suggested, “Maybe the light scared them away as well.”

“I wouldn’t say ‘scared,’” James muttered. “But I do agree, between the sunlight and Edith’s whirlwind of stakes, our friends seem to have cleared out.”

“Let’s go,” Theresa said with a shiver. “I’m ready to go home, or back to work, or go anywhere normal.”

“But where are they?” Edith was shaking as she stood. She peered around the parlor and staggered into the hall with Judith.

“Here, Edith,” Judith put her arm around her friend’s shoulders. “Sit down for a minute.”

Edith began to mumble, insisting on finding Caden.

James came out into the hall, followed by Lewis and Sam.

“Edith, they aren’t here…”

“Did I hurt them?” Edith turned her eyes wide.
