Chapter 16: Return to Realm of the Sun
Edith came to stand by Caden’s side on the balcony, staring at the bleak, sunless landscape. He noticed her worried gaze and placed a finger under her chin, turning her head to face him.
“Why do I burn everyone except you?” Edith whispered her question.
Caden stroked her cheek, “You do…”
She spun to look at him.
Caden lifted his hand and showed her marks on his hands.
“These marks aren’t as bad as my poor fellow vampire down there, however. I think it is because I am not trying to hurt you,” Caden suggested.
“How do you know this?” Edith asked.
Caden sighed, looking back out towards the garden, “I read about something like this long ago, in a tome, deep in the archives…”
He paused, suddenly thoughtful.
Edith placed a careful hand on Caden’s arm, “What is it?”
“You need to get some rest,” Caden ran a hand through his black hair. “We’ll talk more when it’s time to leave.”
