The Awakening

11-6-19 Date of completion

A breeze pushes past me as I open my eyes. The light fails to reach my retinas, as I frantically search for what's pulling on me. Finally, I perceive some light at the end of a tunnel. I notice forest scenery not long after we emerge out of the opposite end. Whatever the thing dragging me is. Its fur is black as twilight, and its wings look scorched and scarred. The beast stops at the center of a clearing and transforms in front of me. The beast shrinks in size and grows a second pair of wings. The second pair looks bright white and angelic. The first pair starts to retract into the body. The body morphs into a humanoid with smooth skin and beautiful form.

I'm let go as I hit the ground, I hear my body produce an audible thud. I begin to stand up, but just as quickly, the humanoid pushes me back on the ground. The form becomes more defined I look at its face. It's glossy dark blue eyes stare into my eyes and says "You will be tested for your transgressions" Just then the world fades to black.

My eyes open to the sight of my ceiling. Trembling, I begin to process what that dream meant. pondering for a while despite my effort, I get nowhere, so I push it aside. pushing off my covers and my eyes look around the room. I notice my Xbox and computer. I look at my wall for a mirror and I see my anime posters but not my mirror. I think to myself "Of course he would I need to find him." I go to look for my friend. I walk into the Oak hallway between the bedrooms. I go into his bedroom and I see him working on a weird art contraption. His room filled with red spots, weird faces, paint everywhere.

I began to talk to him but he stops me in my tracks.

"I know what you're after don't worry I didn't use it this time!"

"you always do this!"

He cracks a wide smile

"I can't help my artistic ability."

I replay with clear agitation.

"Oh, really Sam when have you ever sold a piece of art?"

Sam stopped what he was doing, and said: "You know you can cut deep when you want too."

"And you keep stealing my mirror." His skinny frame shaking from frustration. His fist is clasping shut. Its times like this that I realize I'm an asshole to this man. He is always nice to me.

I shake it off and ask him where my mirror is. "Ok, Sam just tell me where my mirror is." "It's in the living room… just get out." I rush out the door to continue my search. I walk down the oak hallway and find the living room. I find my mirror in between the sofa and the TV stand. I approach the mirror and I look at my reflection. I see my brown hair, dull blue eyes, and V-shaped chin. Only for a second, I could have sworn that I saw horns. I wonder if I really saw horns, or if I just imagined it. I push it away from my mind. My hands grabble the mirror and I proceed to my room.

I sigh.

"Man, I have some problems huh?"

"I only have myself to blame."

"No I haven't done anything wrong it's their fault!"

"I suppose I should get ready."

I take a shower, brush my teeth, and comb my hair. I look at myself in the mirror again. I see a more put together me, my hair is on the side, and my eyes have a little more color to them. I think back and say. "Man I'm looking great!"

I put my black suit on before I fasten my necktie. I fold a handkerchief and rearrange it in my suit pocket. I pick my fedora up and throw it on my head. I check my pants to make sure I'm not running without them. Finally, I can focus on moving on to work! I give myself one last look and can't help but think. What's next for me in life?

I work at a brokerage as a financial adviser. I still can't believe I made it! It truly is a blessing. I wonder if there is a God who pulls the right strings for me or am I just lucky. Either way, I have good money and I worked hard for this.

I get in my car that has a sleek silver design. Its interiors are silk with red and black. Its engine so powerful that it could pull a building down. Its super-charger makes it one of the fastest cars on the planet. I built this car from scratch and I love it to death.

Jumping in the car I turn it on. I hear it purr as the engine kicks in to let me know it's ready. I switch to reverse as I lightly hit the gas pedal. I keep my eyes on the mirror to make sure, I don't hit an unfortunate kid who runs in front of the car. I ease out the driveway.

I receive a call from one of my clients patching him through to my vehicle.

He opens up.

"Hey, can you stop by later today, Zachary?"

Replying almost as quickly.

"Sure I'll meet you at the brokerage."

"Alright, we got to deal with this sooner than later."

"I know I know you picked me for a reason didn't you?"

He sighs.

"Yeah yeah, just get here why don't you."
