CHAPTER 1: DEEP IN THE WOODS

I was raised by a single mother, we lived in a small poorly built cottage located deep in the woods, so far far away from the outside world that I never knew of Caelum's (world Mc is currently in) existence. I only knew of this world of mine and of everything in it as soon as I got a bit older. Growing up, I thought the world was made for us two and us two were the only in existence. No cities, no kingdoms were in view, only the woods and the cottage.

I had seen my mom's struggles up front, she was a strong woman who deserved much more than this world had to offer. She would wake up as early as the earliest birds, to hunt for food and every single day she had to chop wood for fire. She cared much more about me than she did her own self. Doing all she could to keep me warm through the cold winter nights and the early morning huntings provided food, so that I could never go to bed hungry.

When I had turned 7, a new face showed up to our cottage. I had met someone from out of the woods for the very first time. Aside from mother and I, there were others. Her hair as red as roses, fair skin and her physique was a warrior's. Mother had been hunting when our visitor arrived. She smiled as if she had knew me, "my name is Xanthe and I'm looking for Rhea", she said. What was a name I thought and what was this Rhea she was speaking of. Soon after mom had arrived, Rhea was supposedly mom and telling by their conversations, I could tell that they knew one another pretty well. They spoke as if they were old friends catching but Xanthe looked way too young to be mother's friend.

Xanthe visited regularly, always bringing delicious food and treats, so we easily grew close. I learnt that all the books that mother had read me as a kid were all true. I learnt that we were a race called Colossals(Giants) and out of these woods were many like us. There were cities and castles that existed.

Xanthe told me that she had lost her mother as a kid and how Rhea, who was one of their servants back then took good care of her, becoming like a second mother. Years slowly went by and Xanthe never visited again.
