6 Chapter 6

I look at the monster in front of me with a frown. I don't mind getting all out, but I don't want the innocent to get involved in this mess. I know a couple of people living in this area. An old couple selling takoyaki is one of them.

"Are you sure we can go all out in this area?"

I look at the Dog Youkai next to me. By the look of it, she is the leader of this group.

"Yes. The Warding Agency already placed a barrier in this area. This is the place to go if we do some fighting against the Stray Devil or a rogue Youkai."

I nod my head. However, before I can say more, the Stray Devil charges at us.

"Beast Soul: Weretiger!"

After changing into my Weretiger's form, I quickly jump away and see the ground beneath me crack. The blob monster spins and releases a goo out of its body. I change my arms into Lizardman form and tank the incoming attack.

I grit my teeth when the goo hits me. It hurt. It did not do much damage, but it hurt. I shake my hands and look at the blob in front of me. It looks like the others have started attacking it. I look around for a few seconds, searching for an opening to attack.

While searching for something, I see something. I see something shiny underneath the blob. It looks like a crystal, twenty centimeters in diameter.

I take a deep breath and release a tornado-like beam from my mouth.

"Sky Dragon's Roar!"

I aim at the ground underneath the enemy and then curve the wind. My attack hits the ground and throws the massive blob of flesh into the sky.

I gathered wind around my hand and thrust my hand at the crystal.

"Sky Dragon's Drill!"

A wind drill shot out of my hand and hit the crystal. When it hits, I can hear someone screaming from the blob.

"Hit that crystal! That is his weakness!"

"Roger that!"

After hearing me, the others quickly took action. Three elements, wind, water, and lightning, fly at the crystal. When it hits, the screaming gets louder. I gather more wind around my hands, but the crystal disappears before I can release it.

"What?!"

The Dog Youkai shouts as she is about to fire lightning at the enemy.

I can see a head getting out of the blob as its body falls to the ground. He glares at us and shouts angrily.

"You dare to attack me?! You dare to damage my beautiful body?! You did not deserve to live!"

A hundred tentacles appear from the blob, and it flies to us. I jump from left to right, dodging all the incoming attacks. While avoiding the attack, I noticed something. The tentacle is fast but not very mobile. It cannot change direction mid-air unless it wants to get tangled by the other tentacle.

I gather a lot of wind around my hands and jump high into the sky. The wind around my hands turns into whirlwinds that cover my entire arms. I push my magic and throw the wind at the stray Devil.

The whirlwind hits the stray Devil and spins him around. I look at the blob for a few seconds and notice the crystal in the other place in the flesh, but still noticeable.

"Attack that crystal! It is covered in flesh but still noticeable when you shine it with light!"

The Lizard Youkai claps his hand and summons ten balls of light that shine on the stray Devil. The light is so bright that the crystal inside the stray Devil's body starts to shine. Seeing the crystal, we start to release our attack.

"Keep attacking! We might kill it!"

The dog youkai shouts at her companion, who obeys her order. While the other attacks the enemy, I decide to support them.

"O strengthen of arm to cleave the heavens! ARMS! O swift wind that dashes through the heavens! VERNIER! O mighty wind that holds the heavens! ARMOR!"

Three magic circles appear above me, and a second later, my ally is surrounded by a magical aura. Not only that, but their hands also glow.

Arms spells enchant their physical attack. Vernier enchants their speed. Lastly, Armor spell enchants their durability.

They look at me for a second, and I can see the Weasel Youkai give me a thumbs up. I nod and help them fight.

We continue to fight the massive blob. I mostly stay in the back and attack it from a distance using my roar and wing attack. The stray Devil can move its weakness around his body, but it has a cooldown. It can only move its core every ten seconds, and we exploit that.

Each time we hit that crystal, a chunk of flesh falls out of the main body. If previously, the blob was seven meters in diameter; now, it is only three meters.

I blink for a few seconds when I see black chains appear from the ground and hold the stray Devil to the ground. It was then my nose caught something coming from the right.

I look to the right and see a group of people walking toward us. Three humans and two youkai. They are wearing the same uniform as the three youkai with me.

"Yo, scout crew!"

"You are late! You said five minutes!"

The dog youkai shouts at the human walking toward us.

"Sorry. Sorry. Another Stray Devil appears a kilometer from here."

"Another one?"

"Yes. We are lucky it was not powerful. Anyway, who is this?"

The dog youkai looks at me and says,

"This is…"

"Ryan. Ryan Hernandes."

"Ryan… Ah, you are the new foreign student, right? I heard about you. The one who has dragon-based magic. I don't know that you are also a master of transformation magic."

"I just recently learned it. I have yet to master it."

"Anyway, my name is Kaya. Thank you for your help."

"No problem. I'm happy to help."

She nods her head and says.

"As you can see," She looks at the blob monster, "We will take care of this problem. Do you want to stay and receive your reward now? It will take half an hour, but you will get it."

"I get a reward?"

"Of course! Your contribution will be rewarded. So? Do you want it now or later?"

"I would prefer it if you did not give me any reward. I'm doing it not for the reward."

"But…"

"Anyway, I need to go back because I need to do some homework. See you later!"

I decide to interrupt her and walk away as fast as possible. I don't want to get involved in any agency. I want to enjoy life.

"Who is he, Kaya?"

I look at Yuuji, the leader of the Fighting Crew, and say.

"He is Ryan. Have you read the profile of a new foreign student from Indonesia?"

"I heard of it, but I have yet to read his profile. I heard the professor at Kyoto University wants him to participate in the tournament, right? If those old fossils want to send him, that means he has great potential."

"From the previous fight, yes. A little bit more training and he can be a powerhouse. I guess I understand why the professor wants to make a connection with him."

"Have the higher-ups check his background?"

"I don't know. Maybe they are still investigating or trying to make it as subtle as possible. You know that dragon-based magic is rare and the one who has that kind of magic is the people who are powerful. Indonesia did not have many magic-users but the one who is powerful has nasty surprises. I think their Curse-User is called Dukun?"

"Yup. They are like Onmyouji in some sense. They use curse spells and use spiritual energy rather than mana most of the time."

"Their number is few, but their curse is some of the nasty ones. I think the higher-ups did not want to trigger them and sour the relationship."

"Then we expect it will be a long investigation, huh?"

"Yup. Anyway, we should probably start moving."

Yuuji looks at his men and sees they already burn the corpse of the Stray Devil.

"Yeah, we should get moving. I will leave the reward to you. Give it to him, okay?"

"Why me?! Tomorrow is my free day!"

"And you can use it to give him the reward!"

"Argh!"
