The Last Monarch's Wishes

"The one to stop the Great Cataclysm shall be you." This is a story about a defective, corrupted 'character'. Elgin was an anomaly to the world. He was an alchemist who lived in the town known as the Player's spawning point. Batches of humans would come through a spatial rift formed in front of the town's gates, calling themselves Players and bearing a mission to subjugate the last floor of Yggdrasil, the Tree of Origin that stood in the middle of the world. Elgin was not one of these Players, but he was special. The world he inhabited had a special trait that only he was aware of. Every time the Players fail to reach the apex of Yggdrasil, everything would be 'deleted', and then 'updated' into a newer copy of the world. A new group of Players would then descend upon their world once again, and Elgin was powerless to do anything except for watching and hoping that the current Players would finally be able to clear the fated mission. That day never came. No one succeeded, no matter how many versions of the world was created and destroyed. One day, while awaiting the next reset, he was pulled into a different dimension where he met an angel named Regis, who told him that he was the key to unlocking the world's secrets and breaking out of the cursed loop. The angel gave him powers, and liberated him from his status as a 'character' in exchange for a grim task. He possessed the body of a Player, and was given a similar mission with the others- to climb Yggdrasil. For him, another task was added on. To stop the Great Cataclysm with his powers. _______ What happens when a puny character is given freedom, enormous power, and a grand mission to complete? Watch the journey of the alchemist who began his rise to glory to inherit the most powerful being- the Monarch's legacy! Will he fail to destroy the endless game, or will he wield the power and rise to greatness? Read to find out!

Skewered Frogs

Swish!

A bush near where Elgin stood rustled. The creature was fast, but Elgin's eyes were faster. He captured the creature's appearance.

It was none other than a Lapal Frog. A little bit larger than your normal frog, colored pitch black with some obnoxious neon purple spots on them. Just one look would be able to warn you about its poisonous qualities.

The Lapal Frogs did not have any other discerning qualities about them except for the fact that they could hide inside the swamp crevices and launch surprise attacks towards intruders if they wish to do so.

They did have poison, which they used as their main weapon for attacking. They could emit poisonous gases, or strike their enemy with their tongue. The tip of their mouth was where their poison was concentrated at. When the frogs were hit in the wrong spot, the poison stored in their body would be released without restraint and could pose a high threat towards their opponent.

However, it wasn't like they regularly jumped anybody they saw either. They were actually rather timid, and would prefer to opt for peace so long as the intruder did not disturb them.

Unfortunately for them, Elgin wanted to seek trouble on his own accord, even after knowing this fact.

'Experience points galore!' He cheered inside his heart.

He viewed the frogs as nothing more than extra experience points for him to gather. It would be a waste if he went into this swamp and came out gaining nothing.

Obviously, he had to farm everything he could.

The frogs, like a ton of other monsters, liked to stick together and attack as a team when provoked.

Thus, Elgin only needed to cause havoc once to attract the attention of possibly every single frog in the area.

Elgin brandished his sword and began to make his way towards the bush that rustled just now. He peeked from behind the leaves and triggered the hiding creature to move towards another hiding spot.

Before the creature could safely hide itself once again, it was immediately skewered by Elgin and his sword.

Splish!

The frog's small body was accurately punctured by the tip of his sword, and the creature was now left without a heartbeat, stuck in its position.

[1 Lapal Frog has been successfully killed.]

[Experience points increased by 4927.]

Nearby, a cry began to ring. The other frogs' cries. They have now noticed the intruder that was Elgin and aimed to attack him after seeing their comrade die.

Elgin smirked.

'Come to papa, my dearest points!' He gloated inside his mind, preparing himself for battle.

He had already mapped out his surroundings, so he knew where to move and had already laid out a trajectory for him to follow.

Shing!

Another move made by him eliminated another frog.

Clang!

And another.

Spurt!

Another one..

The dead frogs just kept on piling. The pitiful, lifeless frogs were now floating on top of the water, their purple blood seeping out of their bodies.

"This stupid guy.. Why is he picking trouble with literally every single creature in existence?! The frogs wouldn't have harmed him, and he should've been able to pass through without fighting!" Rose was very, very frustrated as she watched the man dance around in the swamp happily slaying the pitiful frogs.

The Lapal Frogs which had once hidden themselves in the swamps all jumped up to try and kill Elgin, but none of them could match Elgin's agility. They fell short compared to his nimble movements, and their attacks never hit.

The one whose attacks kept on hitting was no one else but Elgin himself.

With one swing of his sword, he caught one prey and devoured the experience points he got as a result of it.

A permanent smile was present on his face, and it was all seen by Rose Theadis, who was beginning to wonder if the guy she challenged was actually a psychopath.

Rose shook her head repeatedly, convincing herself that he was just trying to show off, that he was forcing himself, that all of this can't be true-

She refused to believe it! She was in complete denial, seeing the young man she underestimated and challenged actually showing feats that should never be expected out of a newbie.

[Hey, your supervisor is having a mental breakdown. Are you just going to let her see everything? I thought you wanted to hide!] Cecily informed.

'Ha? Well.. I didn't think that I needed to hide just yet. This is just the beginning, right? There's nothing too special about someone slaying frogs.'

[This time it's indeed just frogs. But what excuse are you going to use when you start slaying harder monsters? Are you going to say that it's luck again?]

'..Is there magic for making someone forget everything they've seen? Surely, there is one, right?'

[Don't be silly. You want to wipe out people's memories every single time you get seen? Idiotic!]

'Cheh. I'll think about it later on. Let me grind in peace!'

Cecily looked at the man who continued to waltz around the hordes of spotted frogs, turning them into nothing but cannon fodders. She grumbled in disapproval, crossing her arms.

The frogs never did anything to him, but the way Elgin slaughtered them was like they had killed his entire family.

Of course, nothing like that happened. Absolutely not.

The System's notification sound kept on ringing, to the point where it began to sound like a dance beat.

It took approximately ten minutes for Elgin to slay the entirety of the swamp's Lapal Frog population of about a hundred or so frogs.

Ten. Mere. Minutes.

At this point, Rose Theadis couldn't even close her mouth shut from what she was witnessing.

Did the kid have a grudge towards all these frogs?!
