Turning every stones

The white police officers make sure they did not rest until they found leads to Cynthia's whereabouts. She was declared as a danger to the society. Everyone who was rebelling against the white supremacy was given this tag name ' gevaarlik' dangerous because they would open the eyes of others and the number of the rebellious action would increase. They were trying by all means to eliminate the rotten potatoes, as the the saying goes ' one rotten potato spoils the whole bag'. This was their fear. If they did not stop those who rebel against their rules the whole black society would be out of control. They came with a master plan that would make their endeavours more effective to stop the black conscious movements. All the black political parties were given and restraining order so that they could not voice their opinions in the public again. This made impossible for them to hold meetings and conduct public protests. They started to hold private meetings in private places. This was one of the reasons Mme Mathebula was targeted by the police. Most of the meetings were held in her house.

The white officials were always vigilant when it came to these special cases( those who rebelled against the white supremacy) as they insinuated that they were the ones who were working with t the guerrilla warriors. The guerrillas or the cadres were those soldiers who were freedom fighters. They used all the guerrilla tactics to overthrow the white supremacy. They used to plant bombs in the white government headquarters. They were trained from countries like Tanzania where they were in exile. Then they would sneak through the borders to get back to South Africa, where they started their attacks. Amongst them there were those whose names were on the top list of the wanted. The police officers were always on the hunt looking for these suspects. The officers had their informants among the black communities and these sneaches(impimpi in a Xhosa language) were paid to do their jobs. Some of them were living the life of luxury while other black people were suffering. This led to the point where their houses were burnt and them being assasinated. The necklace (the car tyre that was soaked in petrol and hunged around their necks so that they burn to death). The angry mobs would gather around them and made sure they burnt to ashes. Though this was the most cruel punishment, it was the way in which the rioters express their anger towards the apartheid system.

So, Cynthia was in the top list of those who were wanted and this put her family in the spotlight since the white officials were always on their case. This was one of the reasons her mother was always in and out of the police cells and that affected her health. " Why Cynthia my child, do you put me in this situation? Her mother would murmur those words while the tears were rolling down her cheeks. Sometimes she would find herself writing those words in a diary. She would open up and write everything that was on her mind, hoping that one day her daughter would read them. Those days there were no cellphones, so, everything that was on a person's mind they would write it on a paper. This was how the memories were kept. At times the precious memories were kept in a photo album. The special words would be written on top of every photo in the form of a message. Mme Mathebula used to page her family album and reminisce the old times her family was complete. She would put her index finger on Cynthia photos and speak to them as though she was speaking to her in person. And then she would paste those words like captions around her photos. She would do this often especially when she was thinking about Cynthia's daughter who was growing without her mother. She blamed herself for the mess was happening in her family. She had a strong feeling that she would not live any longer. The burden was too heavy for her. When she thought of her younger children, her tears would fall without control, yet she knew she had to be strong for them.
