The Maze

Chapter 8. the maze

“Davina has fallen into the water, there are too many of the guards!” Gregory yelled, storming the oncoming guards and tearing apart their armor. The heavy armor the guards were wearing suppressed their injury.

“I’m quite sure Gerald and his company are already aware of our presence” the second elder stated emphatically.

“We are still far from the entrance; I still see the red and ash pearls whenever I come around”

“It feels like the bridges are rotating, look!” Banaing shouted pointing to the highest bridge making a turn and adjusting the height to fit into two caves directly opposite a wide frame of guards running to and fro, an opened hidden door, within the caves. The gates opened wide as the mechanical arrows shot from the side of the walls.

the guards stepped away from the escaping prisoners, they stood on the high walls, the prisoners stared at the puzzled by their sudden change in reaction,

“Do you smell gas,” Daelan spoke in his soft voice.

“Yeah, why is the place becoming foggy, the air is lessening inside this place,” the mumbling keeps going among the prisoners.

“Dagwood!” Terrin calls out,

“Tiffney, I have found her she needs urgent help, the cold is seeping through her!” Valen screamed through his throat.

“A coward like you stood still for your town to burn, Coward!” A sinister voice called out to the second elder,

“Aric, Aric Ward, See your nephew is dying what are you going to do.” The sinister voice makes a loud screech, the dragon moves fly from the side pocket to cover Valen Ward and Davina, the golden light emitted prevented the spirit from consuming Davina. The voice laughs hard as he goes to awaken the minotaur from the shadows, the minotaur goes after Valen hitting the dragon so hard it was impossible for it not to feel the pain. The dragon covers the two people with his wings slowly transforming into a bigger dragon.

In the meantime, the mist slows down the conscious mind of the majority of the prisoners. He holds their thought trapping them in their own inner thought, the sinister dark voice reaches their ears bringing out their fear,

“Terin, Terrin, where are your children, you failed them!” the trickster harshly forces his voice on Terrin,

“You are confused, you don’t get what you are doing? Why would you spend all those time in the cell, your family is going to die slowly with the plaque?”

“Stop talking, I can make it before everything happens” Terrin walks on the bones of a dead man, staring at the face of death, Terrin remembers when his mother got affected by the plaque, the suffering she went through, the plaque depleted her life force, making her very old even before she got to 49 years.

“You remember, that’s very good of you, you know how death feels like? “the voice sobs “Have you thought of poor Inesh and my my owe my Tom that beautiful little boy, will he make it”

“No, it not true, they are not dead; we will make it before anything bad happens”

“You have not even started the journey how do you plan on making it?” the trickster becomes harsh. “You are a nobody, you are only a mere carpenter, go back to being a good carpenter!”

“Don’t listen to him Terrin, watch where you are going, there is a temple in your direction” Gregory speaks to Terrin. He forms a bright light in the skies to dissipate the fog, he sees the dead men hanging on the rope. The bones scattered around the ground, Daelan and Banaing gathered around Gregory, Davina, Tiffney, and Valen were on the dragon, and the elder was now laying on the back of the dragon.

“Which Temple, you are hallucinating!” Terrin calls out to Gregory. The fog slowly returns, and there is a feeling of spirit hovering around them.

“Ha-ha-ha! Where does everyone think they are going, look into your soul and see how monstrous you are. You killed them, no matter what you say, you are still the monster who killed them”

Gregory listened to the screams of the young children, the blood crying out to him, he loses control of himself and dissipates the light the fog covers the entire maze.

“It is not my fault; I could only stand and watch!”

“You are their parents, their teacher, you promised to nurture them into great sorcerers” the trickster sends Gregory into a hut, lonely filled with a lady lying inside the hut with a sword thrust into her chest. “See what you did to her, whose fault is it Gregory” The trickster transforms into a lady and hugs Gregory, Gregory sobs as he finds comfort in the arms of the lady. Soon she begins to grip him so hard, “It’s your voice Greg!” the thin voice grew large bursting into anger.”

“Willa, Willa I’m coming for you”

Gregory unsheathes his sword as he runs wild swinging the sword up and down in the fog, filled with rage for vengeance. He goes after Warren, a young tall, and heavily built man with a unique star on his shoulder. He has his ears pierced and curly hair tied to his back into a ponytail.

“Yes he is the one, he is the sorcerer, kill him Greg kill him” Willa urges Gregory to kill the prisoner.

Warren was quick to hide within the shadows of the large two rocks changing the course of the river. A statue holding a lantern was sitting on the stones.

Deagmund and Dagwood, the young prisoner, were running from the minotaur’s rage. He rushed on two prisoners who could not find their way in the fog tearing them apart. He found Deagmund who was hit by his sword of Gregory; Deagmund trips over a dry bone, the minotaur jumps on him to tear him. Dagwood uses a large skeletal arm to hit the creature. It shakes his head in confusion, and puffs and vapour runs from his nostrils. Blood oozes from its left horn. He looks closer to find his hone injected into the side wall. Dagwood takes the injured man and runs into a narrow lane filled with thorns. The thorns bruise their legs and arms slowing them from getting further away from the creature. The minotaur follows them, not wanting to lose its prey, it throws a large wood, which the two young men dodge the wood hit a weak wall breaking the wall in front of them.

“Deagmund are you okay!”, asked the anxious Dagwood, “I am trapped under the rubble”

Deagmund coughs out blood, he sits on the floor dusting himself. “I’m alright, Ohh” he speaks in shock as he quickly goes to pull Dagwood from the rubble, he pulls so hard that he throws Dagwood into the river. The minotaur punches Deagmund in the face. He falls to the ground coughing more blood, Deagmund used the dagger given to him by his dad to hold onto the teeth of the creature preventing him from using the horns to crush him. He was struggling to hold the beast when the dagger glowed, it felt like someone else was holding the dagger, and the dagger pierced through the teeth of the minotaur, tearing him apart from the head. He began burning as it lay dead on the ground.

Terrin saw the ancestor, who gave him the dagger and orb smiling at him, looking eye to eye with the trickster, he felt loneliness within the kindred spirit. He held the orb high and the trickster was dragged into the orb. The ancestor kept smiling at Terrin, “I know you can make it, find the shadow organization, and your doubt will be clear”.

Terrin goes to the bottom of the river to pull dagwood who tripped into the water when they were cornered by the minotaur. Deagmund joins Gregory and the others, and soon Terrin emerges with the unconscious Dagwood.

“We were transported from the bridge to a different location. We were always going round the bridge we never left until now” Gregory speaks with some form of meaning.

“Look it is the outside, the gate is opening again”

“I cannot believe we could not leave the prison; it is impossible to leave this place without them knowing,” said Terrin.

A majestic man wearing a crown and having a lot of followers entered through the gate, the first elder stood behind the man along with three other elders.

“What now,” the exhausted prisoners, only looked at the numerous guards and realized they were back on the bridge.
