Chapter 48.

I looked at my mother whose eyes were down the whole time. She was supposed to explain to me what happened on consummation night. But it seemed the words were to heavy for her.

"Mama, what ever it is you can tell me," I said. I wanted her to feel relaxed. Whatever the case maybe, I will endure for the sake of my people.

She cleared her those and sat on the bed next to me. Her hand stretched towards me but she stopped.

Tears ran down her cheeks and I began to wonder what my offence was.

"Marriage is beautiful especially when you are getting married to the love of your life" mama told me. I looked away to avoid the guilt showing on my face. My marriage was not a love match. It was painful that my mama was never going to find out the truth.

I was tempted to ask her what if there was no love between the couple. Does it mean that the union will not be blessed? Will God be angry with us?
