Anguish

"Mylady, are you ready?" Robert knocked at the door and asked.Meanwhile, few servants adorned Merry's neck with fine jewellery.

"Oh! Yes ! S-sorry for keep you waiting." Merry looked towards the door where Robert just stood right in front of the door,paused and admiring her beauty which embellished with that black dress and red stoned jewels.

"Robert?" Merry called his name kindly.

Flustered by his own loss of words,Robert tried to look sideways.

"If my ladyship is ready then shall we go?" Robert asked politely while trying his best not to make it obvious to her notice.

"Ofcourse." Merry nodded and the servant helped her to wear delicately embroidered black shrug to avoid the chill weather.She looked stunning in that outfit,even the ladies who got her ready, amazed by how differently beautiful she looked.

"Mylady you look... beautiful today." Robert hesitantly complimented Merry on their way to the party hall.

"D-Do you think so?" Merry asked while looking at him in doubt as she thought that she looked strange in this elegant alluring ensemble.

"In my eyes, you are beautiful...and it suits you." Robert affirmed while getting completely flustered.

"Thank you....Do y-you think Max would like it too?" Merry thought for a second and asked irresolutely.

Robert paused for a moment and replied

"Ofcourse he will! Why not?!..and if he didn't compliment you today then that would mean commander has lost his eyes..and don't worry he would love it mylady."

Merry giggled and smiled at him pleasantly.

To his own surprise ,Robert smiled back shyly

On entering the event, as per assumption, almost everyone's eyes fell on their way.

" Oh! lady Merry, I'm happy to see here today.You're looking so pretty." Lady Darlin stood in front of Merry as soon as they entered.

"Y-You too Lady Darlin.This colour r-really looks good on you." Merry gave her genuine compliment with a polite smile.

"Aww thank you. Then I would prefer to wear it often." Darlin said with wide smile.

"Where is your husband?Is he not gonna attend?" Darlin asked.

"He will a-after negotiatory meeting." Merry told while looking at the main door.

"Same..my husband too has gone to attend it..but look I am enjoying more in his absence ha ha ." Darlin claimed.Merry gave a shy laugh at her words.

Deep inside, Merry never thought, someone who is completely stranger,would be willing to talk to her like friends.How strange....

After a while settling, a man sitting completely in dark, looked at Merry intendedly, he was not anyone else but Calvin, running his hand over his hair and fixing his blazer.Eyes filled with anguish for her possession.

Robert started him as he noticed his gaze.

"Mylady, let's go to have something to eat."Robert took Merry away from Calvin's eyes.

"Oh Goodness! T-There are so many varieties of d-dishes today." Merry was amazed by uncountable dishes present over there.

"Indeed." Robert replied astonished too.

Robert smiled at her surprised look as they both got same impression from the sight.

"But..this m-much food would go to waste , don't you think so?" Merry said as soon as the realisation struck about the wastage of such extravagant feast.

"Correct.. they really believe in exaggerating and show off huh what a waste." Robert agreed and said. Both nodded to their own judgements.

"It seems you both attending the ceremony to point out the useless things present over here."Frederick came and stood next to them and said with regaled look.

" Sir Frederick? H-How come you are here?" Merry asked with surprised look when Frederick greeted her with a hand kiss.

"He must have been kicked out of the council meeting." Robert said with teasing tone and tried to mock Frederick for fun.

"Shut with your rubbish you bastar.." controlling his anger, Frederick gazed at Robert with irritation.

"It's not what he is saying my lady, actually I have come for guarding you tonight." Frederick told.

"But I'm already here." Robert claimed with confused expression.

"Still..as I am the ladyship's knight, it is better to be alert at such big gathering." Frederick told with seriousness in his tone while looking at Robert.

Robert nodded as he understood something was off.
