The Great Tournament

Three months passed with little to my problems. I knew the third years were only waiting for the right chance but I didn't allow them. All the students packed into the great hall as with a thousand of us took our seats on the benches.

"Welcome everyone. Today I happy to announce the start of the magic tournament. Everyone who wishes to participate will go to the forest where you will be checked into different teams. The last teams standing after two months will be given to the next stage of representing our fine academy and country in the world leagues." The head master of the school said with joy as everyone broke into excited chatter.

"If that is enough to motivate you then this should. The rival kingdom of Ravens feather has declared war upon us and the last person standing not the team itself but individual will be get to join the knights order, meet the king, and receive five hundred gold coins. So try your best out there." He said as he tossed a card out into the air and the air exploded like fire works changing color from red to purple like a explosive rainbow.

Everyone stared to leave when this happened and formed into groups as we left. After about two hours everyone was outside taking their repeated colored badges showing their teams. In total of the nine hundred who were participating their were about twenty nine teams in total.

"Today we begin. Each team will leave one at a time until a red flare shows in the sky tonight no fights shall break out. No help will be allowed from the outside as this is about survival." The teacher ahead said and one by one each group left.

I had opted to do this solo. This shocked most of the teacher and students but no one argued as we began.

The forest at first seemed like a wonder land with plenty of space and green grass. However walking further in the trees became dense and dark and the grass a dull green. Everyone would be setting up a camp but I had already prepared something after hearing about this last week. The denser forest would make for better defensive teams who would hold up until the end. Others might try caves. One large river went through the the giant forest separating into small parts. People who would set up near them would use the fish from the river and most likely be aggressive. This tournament was meant to be like a war between kingdoms and allies could form over time but it was unlikely.

I walked even further as the trees started to grow voices from their top and the branches made their own kind of floor to how cramped they were. I climbed up one of the trees and pulled my card out looking at all the trees. I walked u here for a little while before seeing a river and put myself about a mil from it. The tree were very dense making normal arrows useless and traps easy to fall into. Finally I could use my cards. After all you were allowed to use summons any way you wanted. This was a no rules game meaning killing was allowed but would be disgraceful.

"Activate" I said holding five cards in my hand all of which took almost all my mana leaving me drained.

Small beams of light formed as beings took form.

The rogues were summoned. Then the bandits formed. The hunters then walked from the light. Carpenters walked out with axes and hammers. But the last were what I needed most.

Name-Royals storm knights.

Stars- 2 stared

Power- 10/10

Twenty men wearing cloth armor dyed in dark blue and silver armor that covered their shoulders, bottom legs, arms closer to the hands, hands themselves, and helmets that left the face exposed with intricate carving of a storm and ocean. From their right back shoulder hung a long piece of cloth that when spread out across the back became a cape with the symbol of lighting bolts hitting the ocean. Background. Royal guards trained from the age of five to serve their kings in battle and protect the royal family. They are the most advanced soldiers knowing every sword technique and bows. They are also known as the prime commanders as it is said they can hold themselves against a entire battalion. The army for their summoner. The summoner gains the ability to keep them from returning to their card form unless they die. Extremely powerful unit.

The ten rogues would be useful for scouting the forest while I stay at the camp. The twenty bandits could defend the area from the camp the ten carpenters could make with them. All together I had a battle force of fifty already out numbering the other teams.while they were weak their numbers made the difference. By doing this I could have a force always out and make a base while saving my stronger cards for the future battles.

They all took their respected groups and formed squares looking at me.

"Rogues scout the area around here up to the river. Knights establish a perimeter to protect those who are building the base. Carpenters and bandits let's talk about the base." I said and everyone got to work quickly. The best part of them being summon was they only needed mana to survive so food and water wouldn't be needed however it would be best to keep them happy as this would be very long.

I laid a map of the area we were in using my map card to show the plans for our camp. A circular wall of six feet tall with gaps that went to five feet about fifty feet big was the idea. Instead of making the wall tall we went for more thick and sturdy. The bandits pointed out the reasons it was best however. The gaps allowed easy ways to use spears and fire arrows on the attackers. The shorter walls of six feet meant it wouldn't stand out to much unless they got close enough to see through the trees. We sectioned the camp up carefully. We had one gate that opened and closed like normal double doors that lead inside. On the left and right of the gate on the inside was five foot tall walls making the enemy forced to go straight meaning spears would be deadly on them. Around the middle of the camp surrounding my tent wold be the knights tents. The back of the walled I area furthest from the gate would be a little tower seven feet tall that would be used to check around the outside.

The camp would be fortified like this for many reasons. If someone used a spell to get over the walls or break them down we could hold them or if it got bad enough retreating to the maze of tents would give us a tactical advantage. By having the knights around me it meant no one could sneak in to attack me in my sleep. The knights had been trained hard and knew how to see through illusion spells and invisible spells were useless against them because of how they kept guard.

When it was decided upon the sun was in the middle of the sky. But they worked hard and fast with no breaks. By the time the sun started to set they had the camp already done. The carpenters would add wood flooring to the inside of my large tent the next day and after they did that they would return to being a card.

The rogues came back with their report and I was very pleased.

"A team on the other side of the river has set a camp but is in the open and only some small tents are up while some slept in a bag outside. They river was forty feet in width and seemed to go about twenty feet deep making it hard for them to cross. That is to our south behind the camp. To out north east and east about three mile away are two small camps who had used their summons to create small bases but not as good." The lead rogue said as he stood firm in his rugged clothes with the sword and cross bow on his back.

This was very good. It meant that we didn't have to worry about attacks and if they did we could easily defend considering the bigger teams weren't near us yet.

"Good job and have a good nights rest." I said as they went to their tents. While they didn't need to eat or drink they would require sleep. If they didn't sleep it would cost more mana to keep them because they would require fresh minds and energy.

"It's almost your time my friend, just a little longer." I said looking at the white owl with blue magic like veins card.

I worked two hours straight on these chapter out of guilt about the last one. I broke my most honor bound rule of every chapter being at least or more than a 1k words. Also join the discord left in the comments from chapter Zach and Dueling. My alt account left the link. It runs out after six days.
