They walked along the corridor in silence. Rani could feel Rory brooding, the air thick with tension between them. She started to say a few conversationals, but stopped when she saw the look of fierce anger on Rory's face. The only sound between them was the slip of their shoes on the stone floor.

When they arrived at Rani's bedroom door, the guards shifted to let them pass, and Rory could feel their inquisitive, intruding eyes on him. He felt like a filthy sea cucumber beneath their open expressions of contempt. They didn't even know that he was a merman; they simply sensed his difference, although his purple hair and eyes were difficult to miss.

"Thank you gentlemen," Rani said to them.

Rory snorted. Gentlemen.

Rani closed the door softly behind them, and Rory glanced around the room.
