Rescuing the Billionaire

Meanwhile at the staircase:

After a little outburst about the security system, Derek and I are contemplating on what to do next. The area was empty with no sign of the guard returning.

The dilemma was real, whether we take the chance and sneak in or wait for someone to appear. It was confirmed from Nate that there were two controls to the security system and the top floor control was not working. That explained the need for ID beeps to get through the doors in the groundfloor.

"Nate, can't you take control of the system if it is shut down?"

"How can I take control of a non-existing system? It should be actually there first to hack into it. There is nothing to connect with."

"Fine, then Diana and I are going in. Let's go by the original plan, we will take the suits as an excuse."

"Okay but I need you both to put on your hoodies as soon as you step into Dominic's space and have your guns at the ready because the security system is an anomaly. Keep in contact and let me know of your movements." replied Nate.

"Got it."

The staircase was illuminated by the chandelier from above, highlighting the golden risers and glittering stone treads. I was in the front as usual holding the hanger while Derek moved with me watchful of the surroundings.

The lobby was empty, making it more suspicious but there were faint sounds and smell of cigarettes flowing from the VIP section. I was sweating profusely but wiped it off before entering Dominic's place.

"Wait…" Derek whispered from behind.

He beckoned me to leave the hanger and we tread lightly on the carpet. Beyond the door, was the multipurpose hall we had seen in the blueprint. Derek tensed and stopped abruptly in front of me.

In a minute, he whipped around and pulled my hand dragging me back to where we left the hanger. But not before I had a glimpse of what he had seen. It was a corpse of a man shot on the head, probably the guard.

"Nate, the guard or some other man is lying dead in the hall."

"What!? …are you sure it wasn't Dominic?"

"No… we know his face, this was a different man."

Although we should be rethinking our plan, I passed the hoodie to Derek who put it on without questioning. Our cop instinct was kicking in. Derek pulled the hanger away closer to the lobby entrance and we both held our guns at the ready.

"Are you both going in? This is insane and too risky, Abort the mission."

"We can't just leave when there's an actual murder happening."

"Your identities are too important to give a damn!"

"It's alright. We can handle it." I said and Nate went silent but there was a bit of grumbling.

Slowly, we made our way into the hall once again. There was a narrow corridor leading to the balcony with a door on the side, it was the visitor's room. There was another longer corridor at the opposite and adjacent to that was a huge bathroom attached. I remembered the blueprint well despite the tense situation.

Our heads snapped to the sound of a few soft footsteps heard from the longer corridor and I dashed to the washroom. There were two bathroom stalls with a Jacuzzi in one corner and sauna on the other and I hurriedly entered into the first stall close to the entrance without making too much noise.

"Bring him here."

My heartbeat was at it's peak on noticing that Derek was not inside with me. A gentle voice came through the earpiece.

"Diana, it's okay. I am right outside and watching. If anything goes bad, I will jump in. Don't worry."

I took a few breaths and calmed myself down while the voices outside continued.

I slightly opened the door and the first thing to catch my eye was the beautiful platinum blonde hair. The head was bobbing about like he was injured. Out of the other five men, I was able to recognize one. It was the associate guy Derek and I had seen meeting with Victor. It seemed like Dominic trusted the wrong man. He was made to kneel in the center of the bathroom.

"Now, strip!" the associate guy ordered.

"You were drunk and drowned into the jacuzzi by accident. End of story!"

They were going to disguise a murder as an accident. It was quite dark so I could not make out the expression Dominic was making but his voice came clearly piercing through the echoing bathroom.

"You think you can kill me here and simply take over the knight corp?"

"You think I can't?"

A low chuckle resounded from the limp figure.

"You are a bigger fool than I thought Jonathan" he retorted.

So that is his name, Jonathan.

"Knight corp is mine and nobody can take control of it ever. If I die, knight corp will be dissolved to nothing. Every asset, every company, every share and property will burn down to ashes and dust." he declared in a breathy voice.

Jonathan was now trembling in anger but slowly, his face contorted to disbelief.

"You…what did you do?" he screamed pulling Dominic's jacket.

"what has he done?" one of the other men asked.

"This son of a bitch has made a will!"

The men did not seem to like the newly found information.

"What the fuck!? You were so confident about taking over the company and didn't even know about this!? The boss won't be happy if he hears this. You better fix this Jonathan or else…"

"Please! Don't call Victor, I will fix this. I can make a new will and have him sign it!"

The situation was worse than I expected. These men were from the Lansky's gang. Apparently the idea of making a deal with the mafia did not work well for Dominic.

Jonathan let out a frustrated growl and stomped outside. While I was worried about Derek's safety, the four men were throwing random insults at Dominic. But they did not like his reaction.

"We should give him a reminder of his situation. Let's cut off his clothes and click a picture as a symbol of the fall of the great Knight."

The others burst into laughter. Placing the guns in their belts, they brought out phones to take photos. The bulky man of the group edged to Dominic with a dagger.

"Shoot them down, Derek." I whispered.

Somehow, I found myself running towards the injured Dominic before listening to Derek's reply. Pulling him by the shoulders to the other side in a way he landed above me, I shot at the men.

The two holding a phone didn't have time to react and succumbed to the bullets. Derek was in the fight within a minute and wrestled with the only guy with a gun out and shot him into his pants by locking his hands. The last man standing was the bulky one who threw his dagger at my gun. My gun clattered to the floor but my attention was on his other dagger. My reflex was good enough to push Dominic and roll away.

"Who are you?" said a feeble voice and made me notice that I was on the top of Dominic. My eyes widened a bit looking into those hazel eyes but I turned my focus to Derek. Derek's gun was kicked off by the bulky guy. To my horror, he smashed Derek to the wall and was trying to strangle him.

"No!"

I opened the drug syringe Nate gave us and pounced onto the bulky man's back straddling him. I wasted no time to punch in the needle but the man was too strong eventhough he had released Derek from his hold.

He protruded his head towards me with force but missed. He began shaking me off violently while Derek leant onto the wall wincing in pain. The man had reached for my wig and pulled it out but my rage was through the roof. I stabbed the needle multiple times into his neck until he collapsed to the floor.

Composing myself, I ran to Derek and hugged the life out of him.

"Your wig" he whispered urgently and pulled my hoodie up quickly. That was when my eyes fell on those hazel eyes once again. His half open eyes were looking at me intently. Dominic had seen the bun and the back of my head.

"It's okay, he hasn't seen your face from the front."

I nodded and retrieved the gun and syringe. I put back the wig on with Derek shielding me from view. We never leave evidence as much as possible. We didn't care about the men and walked to the entrance. The USB was our priority and had to be found still.
