The king's Choice

Matilda was angry and restless, "I know my son, I just feel he's unnecessarily interested in that idiot. She must leave this castle with her mother!".     Gwen was kneeling beside her trying to calm her lady down, "My lady, don't forget you are the king's mother and apart from that, your influence and power is unmatchable among the women in this kingdom. Nothing will happen that you don't like".     Matilda felt like crying and throwing tantrums but she had to maintain her composure in front of her hand maid, Gwen, "But things are already getting out of my control! I need to play a major card that will bring Tyler back under my grasp".      "Why don't you get a woman for him", Gwen suggested.      Matilda looked lost in thought before she finally smirked. She had thought of something, "Gwen, you have to keep an eye on that lowly new kitchen servant. You should always stay around the guest palace. I wonder why Tyler hasn't moved her to the servant quarters but nevermind. Just do as I say and make sure you report every of her movements to me and I'll take care of the rest".      Gwen looked shocked and confused, "I do not dare question you my lady but if I'm there all the time who would take care of you?"      "Just do as I say and then call Yvonne for me", Matilda said.      Gwen frowned but she still bowed reluctantly, she wasn't happy that Matilda was going to replace her.     "I don't know what you're thinking but I am not replacing you, idiot. You're just the only one I trust for this job and you'll have to hurry up and find something except you want to keep watching her. When you find something interesting, you'll return to my palace", Matilda said with an evil grin and then she stood up. She had to start the next move immediately. She immediately went to meet Tyler in his court room.      She entered gracefully and as she entered, everyone bowed except Tyler.      "Is anything wrong?", He asked knowing fully well that his mother had come to give him another head ache.      "Nothing, I would like to request that this meeting end as I'd want to have a word with you and it's urgent", Matilda said confidently but silently hoping her son wouldn't embarrass her. Honestly, she didn't know what was wrong with her son!.       "Ok", Tyler replied calmly and ordered them to all leave except Thomas. Matilda frowned and turned to Thomas.      "Tyler, the matter is between us", she asked while eyeing Thomas.      "Rest assured, Thomas is my loyal servant", Tyler replied calmly but deep down he was laughing, enjoying the sight of his mother like that. He was purposely driving her to the edge.     Matilda was trying to keep herself from exploding out of anger so deeply inhaled to calm herself down.     "Ok, you promised me you'll meet Duke Gregory's daughter, you have to meet her tomorrow. Duke Gregory's holding a soiree tomorrow", Matilda said calmly though she was raging inside.       Tyler pretended to think about it for a while, he was wondering the kind of deal his mother made with him. "Ok".      Matilda was careful not to show any triumphant expression rather she remained indifferent. She wanted her son to be scared and curious as to what she was thinking. "I'll also want to speak to the wives of your late father in the castle".      Tyler's expression turned from shock to surprise to worry and then he chuckled. Matilda didn't care about him chuckling, she remained indifferent but then inwardly smiled after seeing Tyler's expression when she said it. Since he became king, she had never seen him loosing composure after hearing someone speak.      "Why? if I may ask", Tyler asked.       Thomas was shocked too but as usual his face remained expressionless.

Letting a girl

"What happened Kathryn, I heard you voice from afar, is everything ok?", Tyler asked mockingly.

Kathryn just looked the other way.

"I am so sorry your highness, it wasn't my intention to lie to you", Duke Denvers begged.

Kathryn went on her knees and also started begging for her daughter.

Tyler just chuckled, "you lied, you daughter stole. I can't forgive two offenders on the same day. So choose one, you sleep at the dungeon or your daughter sleeps there".

"My husband will, your highness. My daughter is still too young, I'm sure my husband can stand it", Kathryn said almost immediately the king gave them the condition.

Janielle quickly stood up from where she was sitting and knelt down before the king with he head touching the ground, "Your highness, please have mercy". Pauline sighed, she knew her daughter would not be able to watch without doing anything. When was she going to learn that in this kingdom, you are not even meant to be noticed by the higher-ups, especially the king.

Pauline reluctantly joined her daughter on her knees to bed for mercy on behalf of her sister's family.

The king looked at Janielle, "or do you want to help Zoe serve her term?".

Kathryn smiled inwardly, she was happy it was turning out like that. She didn't want to be selfish, she didn't know when she became like this but she just wanted her daughter higher and better than Janielle.

Immediately Pauline heard what the king said, she cringed and tried to signal Janielle to stand up but Janielle didn't listen.

Tyler smiled, "interesting", then he turned to Pauline, "your daughter is willing to spend a night at the jail".

Tyler turned to the guards who were behind the Denvers, "throw the Denvers out of my palace including the one at the dungeon and lock Janielle up instead", he ordered and left the room quietly amidst the yells and screams and pleas from Pauline.

Pauline slapped Janielle hard across the cheek because she didn't even seem bothered about spending a night at the dungeon to save that disgusting witch!

Kathryn gave Janielle an evil look before she was finally dragged away with her husband by the guards. Another guard came to take Janielle away from her mother who was in tears.

Meanwhile, Janielle saw the look on Kathryn's face before she was dragged out and she wondered what she did to offend Kathryn and make her have such a change of heart towards her.

"Daddy, when am I going to meet Janielle", Stella asked her father when she entered his room. She was on his bed now waiting for him to join her.

Tyler laid down beside her and allowed her to put her head on his stomach.

"Tomorrow", he whispered while stroking her hair.

    Stella was so happy, "tomorrow?"

    Tyler nodded.

    "You promise you're not lying?"

Tyler chuckled, "when did I become a liar?"

"You were never a liar", she said and chuckled cutely. She didn't really have friends as her father was over protective and as a young girl, she really wanted to meet Janielle.

"But before you see her, you have to promise to be a good girl", Tyler said softly.

"When did I become a bad girl?", Stella tried to mimic her father's tone, this made him laugh hard.

While he was laughing, Florence was at the other side of the door. She managed to enter the king's palace with the help of her son. Before she could knock, she heard the king laugh so heartily, "what could be making him this happy? I've never heard him laugh this hard since he was a boy", she muttered to herself.

Tyler sensed a presence behind the door and then he quieted down, "who are you?"

Florence froze, realizing the king had noticed her. Before she could turn, Matilda came from behind her.

"And what are you doing in my son's palace?", Matilda asked her with a look of disdain on her face.

"He is my son too", Florence said boldly. When Matilda heard that, she slapped her hard

Tyler overheard the women's argument and the slap that his mother gave Florence.

"Stella, stay here and don't move from here. I'll be back soon", he said and left Stella on his bed.

He quickly went over to his door and opened it. When Florence saw him, she bowed, " your highness".

He ignored her and turned to his mom, "what happened?".

Matilda smiled, seeing that he ignored Florence and respected her while Florence turned red from embarrassment.

"I was just coming to check on you when I saw this woman spying in your quarters. She was even standing in front of your door", Matilda said confidently.

"Your highness, I just came to see...", Florence was about explaining before Tyler interrupted her.

"How did you get in?", He asked. This was really an opportunity to silence her and her son forever.

"I... I entered...", She was visibly scared.

"Speak up clearly, let the king hear you!", Matilda ordered. Tyler almost rolled his eyes, his mother sure liked to prove authority unnecessarily.

Florence was still muttering incoherently when Tyler threatened her, "Speak up and don't let me find out myself".

"My son gave me a seal to enter", she finally confessed as beads if sweat started rolling down her back.

"Great!", Tyler said and then ordered the guards to lock her up with her son.

When he was alone with his mother outside his room, his mother spoke up, "I feel you had this in your sleeve all along. I'm glad you're wiser".

Tyler nodded, "I'm sure you are. So, why are you here?".

"Nothing really, I saw that witch hovering around your palace and I knew she was up to something", while Matilda was talking, she saw a movement behind the door, coming from Tyler's room.

Tyler noticed that she knew someone was in his room but before he could even tell her it was Stella, his mother started saying random things, "oh my, I'm so proud of you, you're finally letting a girl to your bed. I hope you introduce her to me soon. Let me excuse you", she said with a smirk and left. This time, Tyler rolled his eyes.
